What to pair with Tonverk?

Okey its time. I love Tonverk and i want something to pair it with, what do you guys pair it with?

Pair it with a laptop (akaizer and YTbeatmakercues) and sample to your hearts content

It might help to give us a bit more info on what you’re looking for / what you miss on your TV. A hands on synth? Something analog? Ambient FX? Without any context on what you already have and what you’d like to do, everyone will just randomly name their favorite synth, FX pedal or drum machine. That might help you but could also just lead to GASy purchases that might make no sense for your music making process.

just interested to see what you pair your tonverk with

Nothing—for two reasons:

  • Tonverk is not yet running synchronously enough with other devices this month.
  • You don’t need a second device unless you want a specific sound or workflow that Tonverk doesn’t provide—Digitone 2, Syntakt, A4 - That depends very much on your needs. Everyone will recommend something different.

But Tonverk is already so powerful that you don’t even need new samples… :grimacing:

Well then I give my boring answer: I have a Take 5 hooked up for auto sampling synth patches and loops and an OP-XY that’s fed through some FX pedals to record weird loops made from vocals via XY’s mic.

The Tonverk has changed how I see my other instruments. I like working on it and so this has made me see some of my other instruments more as sound sources.

I would like to free up some money for Black Friday but I don’t have anything that I want to sell! (I am grateful for what I have). Maybe how I have described them below might help you decide what you need?

Tonverk - Main song production centre and playground
Digitakt II - Was the above, now more of a beat production playground
Syntakt - Was the above. Now, sound source and sound design playground
MPC Live II - General idea centre and sound source. It does everything.
Korg Minilogue XD - Analogue sound source and lovely to play & experiment
Behringer Wave - Digital sound source and lovely to play & experiment
Behringer Grind - Diverse sound souce with a lovely filter

I have paired my OP-XY with the Tonverk. For feeding the Tonverk with sounds and use the Tonverk as a FX box for the OP-XY. Also use the OP-XY as a(expensive…) midi keyboard.

Update : just paired the Tonverk with my Polyend Tracker Mini, really a great combo. Only need to connect with a USB-C cable and have midi and audio both ways.

Paired with DT2, DN2, Juno, Minifreak, Polyend Mess. Depending on what kind of sound I need (or wherever inspiration takes me), I fire XYZ up and play.

TV became the centerpiece (DN2 was that prior).

I’ve been trying a few different workflows. Currently got it with a DN2 with tracks panned L or R for separate TV effects processing.

this is the way.

I’m going to pair the verk with my A4. atm I’m jus using it solo with some machinedrum samples.

The TV + Digitone 2 combo gives me everything I need:

  • Very broad sound palette (fm, wavetable, samples)
  • I can sample chords and pads into the TV and use it as a rompler
  • The outs of the DT2 are run through bus 4 so I have the option to add additional FX.

Similar workflow so easy for the mind

Since TV has 3 stereo outs, I’d go with a mixer with several aux sends (like Mackie 1604 VLZ4) + several FX boxes (Kaosspad, pedals from Strymon, Eventide, Hologram etc). Plus laptop as a source of samples.

You use the mixer to send back to TV?

A synth, iPad or FX pedal are nice combos with TV. I like to pair it with my Super 6, then I can multiply the sounds from the synth.

Field recorder, contact mic, analog polysynth (Artemis,) iPad/Phone, headphones.

For weeks it was just headphones, as I was exploring the stock Tonverk samples. Branching out more now.

I have some other gear (DT2, euro, controllers, pedals) but they haven’t been out of storage for some time.

I saw this guy can’t remember the name but using DN2, DT2 TV and AH+FX together and it looked like infinity of possibilities, however I think for me it would be a bit too much screens…

No, just for playing live with different effects. I have 3 stereo pairs from my TV routed into 3 stereo channels on my mixer, which has Strymon Big Sky, Timeline, and Kaoss Pad on the aux sends. This setup allows me to process each track independently with external effects and apply different EQ settings to each one. Plus, it opens up a lot of creative possibilities with effects—for example, sending the delay tail into the reverb, feeding the delay back into itself for feedback loops, and other interesting tricks.
