What’s the point of Decksavers? Aren’t they unnecessary and expensive?

sorry to hear this. I have deck savers for mine and they keep the dust away.

I used to use old t-shirts for covers. Crazy story: one of my oldest was from when I was a teenager back in the very early 90s!

But now I’m old and slightly more affluent. I started buying decksavers and I find them better for my feng shui when I’m sat in the studio/office when I’m working on work, rather than working on music. If you get what I mean.

Thanks to your post I finally got those from Wavetable, I was eyeing them for a while

Edit: Seeing the comments below, with those of course the paint does not wear off and also it does not occupy more space

Just about every piece of gear I own has lost a little paint around the edges from traveling with the decksavers on… So what?

Got a Ferrari? Drive it!

What’s the alternative, keeping it under a tarp in the garage?

Cheers!

I find that I never keep gear and always buy/sell in order to fuel new gear experiences. By keeping my gear in MINT condition while using it, I maximize the resale value.

Especially that OG MPC Live. It only took a few times before that finish wore off for me due to the decksaver

Admittedly, I’m a bit OCD about keeping my gear in perfect condition. Even the fine scuffs you have to look close to notice that occur on Elektron paint finishes annoy me.

Rubbing hard plastic up against Elektron’s more delicate paint finish is something I avoid. Especially, if it is something done repeatedly.

See, and you didn’t even have to pay extra for the “Road Worn” finish.

Cheers!

it’s 2024 and DeckSaver still has no competition cutting those prices in half and then half again… how in the world is nobody else doing this?

I have to say that I am slightly concerned about the deck saver on my Push 2. It’s sooo tight on there, I’ve found that it’s actually hard to get off.
The one I have for my Circuit Tracks though, fits perfectly. Pops on and off like a champ!

PL-2s lids seem to be back in stock.

These are great but so expensive that now I feel I should buy protective lids for my protective lids

Decksaver is actually missing out on their potential market I think. They could offer decksavers with prints and not only see through. This would make it more expensive but I think they would actually sell more.

That’s exactly what Elektron are doing. The original ones Elektron are selling are (well not 100% sure but very likely) made by Decksaver but has the Elektron logo :relaxed:

I was positivly surprised the Squarp Hapax had a dust cover when i opened the box, i bought a decksaver anyway, because i transport it frequently between rehearsal room and home, sure i think they are overpriced, but for transport protection they are kind of necessary.

I’ve tried both and I really prefer WaveTable’s covers to Decksavers. The paint does fade over time (I noticed keeping them out of the sun helps a lot), but it’s really that…

Spoilers: Ecological Collapse Anxiety ahead

… as an American who likes to eat meat and drink tequila and do a bunch of other things that take up more than my fair share of natural resources on this planet, I already suffer from too much environmental guilt and anxiety to buy a bunch of plastic that will outlive me and its intended use by thousands or millions of years.

It just feels… I don’t know. It doesn’t feel good being surrounded by all this immortal plastic.

Anyway, I don’t want to make anyone feel bad or come off like I think I’m better than anyone else. But the older I get, the more trouble I have ignoring all this consumer stuff that will stay around long after I’m gone, and all the living things that will have to deal with it all, forever and ever amen.

Also I like how they make all my stuff look uniform on the desk.

I didn’t really think I’d ever get one. But when I sent my OT to get serviced, I really appreciated that they did it for free out of warranty and since I had bought it used and really even as much as I ended up over spending in shipping to insure it, I bought one for the long term.

I had been using a microfiber cloth, that I figured was good for keeping off dust, but it still ended up with it on there. And wanted to give some financial support to elektron figuring I wouldn’t be buying anything ‘new’ from them anytime in the near future.

I get the gripe of price, but aside from briefly owning a new macbook, this was the most I’d ever spent on a single device, so I figured it’d be better than the alternative. It does the job, it’s solid, and yeah, I sometimes put other things on top if I’m shelving it or just moving multiple things. And really makes traveling with a case I found at a goodwill a stressless option, knowing nothing is going to get knocked or hit on the control panel.

Spill a drink next to a piece of gear with a decksaver and you’ll realize they are not unnecessary or useless.

I’ve managed to never spill a drink over any hardware before…except for the other day.

I completely missed the 3 bits of gear covered in decksavers (digitakt/digitone/keystep), and instead got tea all over my laptop and pedalboard.

The lesson is probably that I need even more decksavers (or maybe to stop drinking near electronics…).
