I’m 99% certain that if they included touch there would be no going back and it would take all their products to the next level.
I’m what way?
This is entering subjective territory, like when people say something sounds warm.
Next level means what? How do they accomplish it when developing takes resources and time?
How is they missed this great opportunity to take things to another level when you can see it better than they can?
I am definitely in the camp of not caring about a touch screen. I no longer expect anything to cover everything and also don’t believe my use case is everyone else’s use case.
Found over on NI Forum. I think it’s a mistake…but just in that they leaked it early.
Man. If NI is working on a drastic Maschine rebuild to accommodate a new large single screen I think I finally know where they’re going with the whole computer inside the new keyboard kontrollers.
Also makes a lot of sense that the keyboards aren’t integrated. Remember, people hated that you couldn’t make the keyboard work independently if connected to MK3/M+. Not an issue anymore. More focus and then you’d really want both vs either or.
Exactly. It’s bad design practice to build tech in just because you can, then figure out what to do with it after. Best practice is to identify a user problem and then you figure out the best way to solve it whether it’s a software or hardware enhancement, or something else
Personally i think the mk3 is a cool upgrade. They made a really good controller even better. Poly AT seems to be the main reason to get the mk3. Single screen is nice aesthetically, but functionally it does everything the 2 screens did on the mk2
It’s possible, probably, but nobody but the hardcore wants to jump through hoops to use features that should be taken for granted on a midi keyboard of this calibre and cost, each time and for every non native plugin.
I paid a lot for my S49 mk11, but it coudn’t do shit my budget midi keyboards can do (without said hoops at the very least)
Some people can hack gear to all sorts of stuff, but it doesn’t mean it should be that way, just because some can.
You make it sound like a massive burden, when it only takes a minute or two the first time and then its pretty straightforward. You just have to find the VST file and load it in the software.
From there you can create your custom mappings and save it as a user preset.
Its not that intensive
My point was, some people like doing this and there’s some people that like going much further still to achieve something that most other keyboards give a button and secondary buttons for.
I can’t be bothered to do it for maybe 50-100 vsts and it would no doubt take longer because I can’t be bothered to do it when I can plug in another keyboard that will do this with little effort.
My reason then are valid for me, or probably many others that equally don’t want to do something other keyboards have already implemented.
Asked NI for a license transfer for one of my products too and it came back almost instantly.
Whoop!
If you use primarily NKS vsts, then it’s an optimal way to work.
If you don’t, then this product clearly isn’t marketed to you
Some units (Maschine plus) seem to have issues.Id be worried that the ultra cheap ones might have too.I have one that so far is stable.froze once.
(But then again often it’s the SIM card that needs upgrading possibly)
Absolutely. That and a bad case of Covid kept me from buying either. One is still available but I think I’ll pass. As you stated, and I experienced in the past, they are unpredictable and I’m really not needing any additional gear at the moment.
Besides, NI seems to be moving on to a new form factor sooner than later anyways. I think I’m going to just keep an eye on the space.
After the discount mistake a few weeks ago I’m still waiting for my refund on the hardware I purchased ( I’m in uk )
Anyone else ?
I got mine in a few days. Was through PayPal so took another 5 days before it showed up
Another small step in the right direction - Native Access now allows one click uninstall of Kontakt instruments and sample packs. Would be good to see that extend to VSTs and other software, but sample libraries were always a particular pain to get rid of, so hoping this is a step towards uninstalling anything.
Thanks. Time to go try it out.
I’m running into some unexpected money and instead of buying more hardware that I don’t have space for, I’m going to go in on some good multisampled instruments, vsts, effects etc. Komplete 14 standard is looking pretty good to me.
What’s the cheapest way to get Komplete right now? I’m realizing I just missed a big sale 🤦 so probably not going to wait for another discount as it probably wouldn’t be till black Friday.
Tricky. So there was a mini sale recently with 20% off. Black Friday usually isn’t for bundles but there’s a lot going on at NI, so that may be a route.
This link has a number of routes and historical
sales info that may help.
Sales were more predictable at one time, but now they mix it up, there’s often a sale on something there, but not everything at once. At the moment it’s a 50% of the Hip Hop Expansions and Play series related to the genre because it’s Hip Hop’s 50th birthday year.
Cheapest safe way is probably ebay as there is buyer protection, but I reckon 15 will be out soon as 14 is nearly 2 years old.
Yeah the standard version of Komplete is the best value unless you need loads of sample packs. If you already have any NI or Izotope stuff it’s worth logging into both accounts to see whether you qualify for any discounts
NI is EOL-ing the MK1 S-series controllers. Also say Komplete Kontrol 3.0 will be released on Oct. 12.
Hello,
We’re writing to let you know we will be ending software support for MK1 of the Komplete Kontrol S-Series keyboard controller on October 12, 2023.
Starting with the upcoming release of Komplete Kontrol 3.0, future NI software releases will no longer be compatible with the MK1. Please do not attempt an update to version 3.0 when it is released on October 12.
You will still be able to use your MK1 keyboard with Komplete Kontrol 2.9 (or lower), which includes Apple Silicon and VST3 support. However, we will no longer maintain older versions of Komplete Kontrol and cannot guarantee they will be supported by future versions of your computer’s operating system.
We occasionally need to retire older products like the MK1 in order to focus our resources and development efforts on building new, innovative products and features. In this case, our decision comes alongside the launch of our new MK3 keyboards. With MK3, we are introducing next-generation software with many new features that require significant team resources. This means we are not able to continue working to maintain older versions.
We would like to thank you for your long-lasting commitment to Native Instruments and our Komplete Kontrol keyboards. Below, you’ll find a list of FAQs with detailed information on this change. If you have any further questions, please reach out to Native Instruments Customer Care
