Nice! Definitely nails the brief. When the guitar comes in, I’m sold.
Definitely my favorite Oberheim-esque plugin. I feel like it flies a little under the radar, so great to hear it put to good use.

Thanks chap!
Obsession is a funny one. It’s a brilliant synth, but I just find I always end up with cheesy 80’s type sounds whenever I use an Oberheim even though I know they’ve been used for loads of other stuff. In this case I just leaned into it ![]()
Love those bell sounds, really evocative.
With the bass it creates a really enclosed vibe and then opens up when the gated synth comes in.
Amazing what people can do with an M8
Week 6 est mort. Vive la week 7!
Week 6 I was learning my way around a Tonverk for the first time. So the song is just a simple “cave between two places you have to travel through for no reason in a JRPG” track:
Interstitial Cavern
This is me for this week:
I’m really happy with how it turned out.
Jamuary + Weekly beats means I’ve probably already made more music in 26 than I did in 25 which was a bit of a dry year. The intensity means I’m improving quite fast.
Made using Bitwig. The synths are mostly U-He Diva with the more aggressive lead synth made with Arturia Mini Brute and the synth choir is Augmented Voices.
The track was an experiment in using E Phrygian Dominant to evoke a Middle Eastern sci-fi vibe and then resolving to A harmonic minor for the B section.
Oh yes, some serious playstation vibes!
I love the grit on the lead synth and it’s got an excellent harmonic progression with a mysterious melody.
music written and recorded in 3 hours

Soundtrack-y balalaika music for this week
So cool this!
I’d love a Balalaika. The musical tortilla chip as my friend calls them.
I really want one!
A track made with Bitwig for Weekly Beats.
I wanted to do something full on cheesy four on the floor.
The inspiration for this track was Mario Kart music specifically from the Wii era (hence the ambient piano).
Artwork designed by my daughter.
Composition thing for this week is moving 13th chords around chromatically for jazz fusion craziness and a weird modulation from C major to E major in the bridge section.
Inspired by the FM for John Chowning thread, this week I did an FM-only, four-on-the-floor, trance-ish bit of… something.
Chowning
Aaaaand… week 8 is in the can! Congrats on two months, everyone ![]()
This week I did a groovebox thing that I stemmed out to Logic, but had no end of little technical problems with. I ended up spending much more time trying to salvage things in the mix than I did on the actual song. But that stuff’s fun, too, so I kind of went with it. Probably too much. And I’m only now realizing that I use the word “Seven” in the title of the song for the eighth week, and I’m going to regret that when trying to remember things later ![]()
Anyway:
Gate Seven
congrats on two months everyone, that’s no small thing. the FM-only four-on-the-floor track sounds like a really focused constraint to work within, love that approach.
the groovebox-to-DAW stemming rabbit hole is real though. half the time you end up fighting the tools more than making music, but i guess that’s also kind of where you learn the most. the “spending more time fixing the mix than making the song” feeling is very familiar.
week 8 here too, just barely. been keeping things deliberately short and sketchy this year rather than trying to finish anything, which has actually been way more fun than i expected.
Weird time signature drum and bass for this weeks entry!
This is easier to rationalize if you’re a programmer
Last week I made an angry, noisy, abrasive… thing? I dunno, genres aren’t real, but distortion is
This week was a dramatized narration of my own thought process trying to put a song together. There are harmonicas in it
