Warning: elektron will not fix your machines

cool - sorry I responded a couple of times in one of the 5 or 6 threads and so did everyone else. Can you please delete them if you are a mod? Id delete my comment

This is no less spam than the kitchen stuff.

I have been critical of Elektron in the past,( poor communication, releasing unfinished products, etc), but one thing I have never doubted is their dedication to the "Elektron way" and their family of users. So I would be very surprised (and disappointed) if the quoted emails were meant as anything other than a helpful alternative solution.
All I can suggest , is to take a deep breath, wait until the new year, and ask again. Maybe send a copy of this thread as well, just to reaffirm your anger and frustration at being without you baby over the holidays.

just my 2ct mod thoughts here:

this post just shows how fucking awesome ā€œourā€ community is … there is a metric ton of help coming to this guys rescue, and everything stays civilized and supportive … so I thought, naah, i enjoy all the love in tha house … cheers …cant wait to find out whats really going on … and YES, I / we could delete the double posts, but I assume this is a once in a year occurene…

Just to put things in perspective;
I had to repair an op-1; Teenage Engineering took a month to ā€œbelieveā€ it really had a problem. I had to send internationally (payed shipping both ways) and it took over a month for repair and shipment (which cost a third of a brand new op-1!!!).
I sold both my op-1s and will never buy one again bc I just couldn’t hold on to something that I wasn’t really into anymore (plus had so many possible faulty issues). Also, TE has a very limited 1-year warranty.
AND I had a werkstatt modded which took over three months bc Adam at Laurentide was basically learning on mine as it was the first one he’d done a full mod set on. I LOVE IT! it was totally worth the wait. Adam is a genius.

My point is, these things take time.

And on a side note; I know for a fact that even if the machine is out of warranty, Elektron will do everything they can to help.

To the ones who are criticizing me:

You are behaving like some religious clan.
You are either young kids who are not making music for a living and depending on the ā€œProā€ gear for moving sessions along with paying clients and the such, or you are just childish fanatics of this or that company, and taking this matter personally.
So i have no dialog with you and you may leave the thread if I’m hurting your Elektron feelings or whatever it is you guys pray to.

Now to my matter, i have tried another PSU. same thing.

This is obviously a mater for an authorized tech. I have been in the music business for near 30 years, working with top artists, and pioneering certain aspects of electronic music and the use if electronic gear along the way.

In my entire career not once an electronic, or other, piece of pro gear went south on me without immediate instructions from the manufacturer as to what to do with it and how to not lose any session time. And i do not mean sending me to the building’s superintendent who replaces lightbulbs in the elevator.
Be it any of the synth makers -old and new, AKAI/EMU/Ensoniq samplers or anything else, not to mention my recording studio gear.

This is the first time that i feel like I’m dealing with some wishy washy company that maybe at some point would do me a favor and fix this $1,400 drum machine.

Its very cute to make all kinds of hipster videos showing how to make euro-stupid techno loops, but i think if you are peddling pro gear you should know that actual pro people are going to use it and need immediate service.

From searching the forum I’ve noticed that this problem is quite frequent, so, if your gear is already proven to be unreliable, how come you do not have a proper authorized tech in every major city of your biggest market- USA? At the moment, based on me not even getting a reply from the ONE(can you believe it) Tech in the USA, i say- there is NO SUPPORT IN THIS PART OF THE WORLD FOR ELEKTRON GEAR. This is below ANY professional standard in our industry.

If there is not enough work for a full time shop It does not have to be a dedicated tech that does only that, but if they are saving money on techs so they can make more stupid videos, then i do not trust this company. They are total amateur and totally out of standard in the pro world.

My thread was here to warn the pro community who uses this gear for living and can end up with a stuck project and painfully pricey downtime. A serious company has a person in every major city, fix gear quickly, and even give you a replacement so you have no down time.

If this is above the head of some folks here, i guess you are just hobbyists and have no clue about what i am talking about. Join back the thread when you grow up… I’m not sure the machine would be fixed by then anyway.

Want to answer those questions from the first page?

Arrogant much?
It takes a certain kind of whiny entitled person to spam the entire forum like that.
But you are " A PRODUCER", so I guess that’s reason enough.

If you’d bothered to notice the mere mortals here, you would have seen that this place is full of people who are genuinely helpful and generous enough to care about others.

I’d be skeptical of someone who can’t spell. Especially someone who’s been on this earth for as long as they claim…

i think dumb eat corrected his spelling mistakes just now. hah!
why do ā€œproducersā€ who have been in the business for ā€œ30ā€ years A. not have enough money to just buy a replacement or B. have the time to complain instead of just offloading the machine being used.
Being a fanboy and being helpful (not an ass) aren’t synonymous. I think the OP must have just been dropped by a performer and is blaming a machine. Of course, I have no idea but he’s obviously just looking to start a fight.
Honestly, the Elektron responses seemed quite polite and helpful to me as well.
If you really want my advice, try and channel Macgyver. He was smart, resourceful, witty and had a stellar attitude in times of despair. You know Macgyver, right? he was getting started around the same time you were.

this

if you are such a pro that you need immediate service and can’t afford any downtime, then why don’t you just do what any real pro does with important gear in important projects:

get a backup unit.

Take your backups and load them into another machine. Surely a pro such as yourself both has backups and can afford to nip out and pick up a replacement. If you had been nicer someone in your area might even have had one they could loan you.

I don’t even know what that is supposed to mean, but it sounds racist as hell.

I am thankful to the ones who tried to help and don’t really care about the few idiots who are having a personal issue with me as if i’m the topic of this thread…

The reality is that there is no US support for the machine and that is a solid fact proved by the fact that i have no one to fix my machine, and THAT is the topic of this thread.

Its anything but spam, and way more important then many threads that deal with such idiotic stuff that you rub your eyes in disbelieve when you read them.

@dumbeat:

i am one of the forum’s moderators. before posting again, please reread elektron’s two responses, which you quoted.

they are not recommending that an electrician repair your unit. they are backed up with service requests, and they feel a local electrician’s initial troubleshooting might expedite their own repair work.

i understand you are frustrated, but please be civil. there are many knowledgeable people on this forum and someone here may be able to help you directly.

  • What type of MachineDrum? (Mk i/ii UW? +Drive?)

  • Did this just happen one day? Or have you been having intermittent issues?

  • If so, anything of note recently? Moved house / room / setup? Any electrical storms?

  • Can you do a sanity check on the power supply, ensure that you have the right one, they can behave erratically with the wrong psu. Also try in a different location, straight from wall socket.

  • Have you tried the System Diagnostics? Hold down [FUNC] on power up, select option form menu with the appropiate [STEP] key. What are the results?

  • Have you tried a factory reset? (This will reset, and you’ll lose your kits/patterns, last resort scenario) Hold down [FUNC] on power up, what happens?

  • Where are you located? Know anyone else or store with an MD? Can you try with another power supply? (Remember they are different between MkI and MkII models)[/quote]

  • MKII UW +Drive

  • It started showing weird signs but at restart it would work fine, until one day it just wouldn’t boot anymore.

  • Tried it in many different locations, with different PSU’s.

  • It wont go into any sys diagnosis mode except the one that checks the button operation by showing all the led’s responding

  • Tried factory reset, it looks like its doing the reset but then goes back to its old ways

  • Im in NY. I do not know anyone using this machine around me. At least not in my community.
    Thanks!

Man if you spent the same amount of time defending yourself as to whinging then you probably would have sorted your issue.
But worry not - you dont have to :warn anyone or save them from a purchase or whatever your doing. In fact what am I doing. Ive got better things to do - catch

I don’t know what this means also but if you were around I’d give you a hard slap with my indigenous hands.

Have a great day though!
