Warning: elektron will not fix your machines

Hi-

Ive have this problem with my MD not booting and showing weird symbols on the screen.

Contacted support, who said i should contact some email address in LA. No reply from there.

Contacted ELEKTRON again, who said there is probably too much work at the LA office and that i should look for an “ELECTRICIAN” to fix my problem.

So just so you know -
if you buy an ELEKTRON device you are on your own as they don’t care about you basically

i am NEVER spending one more dollar on them and i am making sure no one else does. This is SO LOW…

Could you give us more details of the problem so that we could try to help?

I have a hard time buying this. It is out of character for Elektron to suggest having anyone but an authorized repair person touch their machines. So something tells me we’re not getting the whole story.

Why don’t you elaborate… Perhaps you have a faulty power supply or something? Did they maybe suggest having someone test the output of your power supply? Did they suggest shipping in your machine?

Not a chance - they were super responsive when I contacted them about an issue that we both knew was my fault - my cat chewed off my knobs - and they were pro-active as can be!.

Not buying it.

Are you sure you didn’t contact “electron” instead of 'Elektron"?

And the way you spammed this across every Forum on this board says more about you than Elektron…

as always,

have you done a hard reset,

(saved all your work prior to.)

the only thing you’re making sure of is that nobody here gives a damn by being all shouty shouty and spammy spammy, calm down, spell it out, softly softly etc and you might get better results, lots of people get good support… now you suspect you’re not, hmm, go figure ! maybe a gentler approach is needed and a bit of clarity, both with Elektron and here, all this petty hate driven bullshit is futile, even if your gripes are genuine, it’s counterproductive

Never had a problem with HQ, if you did like your MD why not being more lovable for her?

If you want it you get it.

contact back and maybe ask for sending the unit to them in Sweden, if allowed.

But first, give (if you didn’t) a better description of your issue, make a video or else…they want users to continue on their products…and IMHO they deserve it!

You mis-spelled drumbeat

Are you sure

Here is the quote from Elektron. Please do not doubt my honesty. Yes, maybe out of character, but still a fact!

quote #1:

Hi Rea,

Very sorry to hear this, unfortunately the US repair centre is a bit behind schedule at the moment but I will contact them and ask them to contact you as soon as possible.
The workload has a tendency to increase before the holidays and unfortunately we haven’t been able to meet the demand this year.

Hope you understand, and please let me know there’s any more delays in this matter.

Regards,

Martin - Elektron

Quote #2:

"Hi,

To save time for you it could be a good idea to ask an electrician to have a look at the unit, a bit hard for me to guess what causes the issue without checking the machine myself. Best case, it could be caused by loose cables or something similar.
Either way, if a technician can see what causes the issue we can hopefully arrange so that spare parts can be shipped directly to NY.

Please let me know how this goes.

Regards,

Martin - Elektron

That’s not what they said. Start with their reply that begins with the preface, “To save time…”

lol, lovely to see how the very quotes meant to support his case actually reflect really well on Elektron: where they could have easily just said “due to holiday traffic your repair will take longer than usual” they go the extra mile by thinking of and suggesting a non-standard way to speed up the process.

dear Drumbeat … thanks for posting the letter from Elektron … I can understand that you are pretty upset right now and maybe even angry … from my personal history I assume Elektron will do the utmost to resolve your problem… maybe stay cool till the beginning of next year and then try again?

I would also not be happy to have “some electrician” look at my baby, I only want skilled swedish people to touch her… so I can understand you …

I am pretty sure it will work out… please try to stay calm bro …

any luck with trying a new powersupply from a friend (or somebody in this forum)

any luck with a reset ?

I actually think the response from Elektron is pretty damn professional.

Instead of just telling you to send your unit and then keep you waiting for a few weeks until they’re back on schedule, they’re giving some pretty specific advice for how you might be able to get the issue fixed by going to a local technician.

I agree that “electrician” might be a poor choice of words, but he already corrects himself and uses “technician” in the next sentence instead.

Keep in mind that there’s nothing magical about Elektron boxes; they’re just well-assembled modern electronic devices no different from any other kind of electronic musical instrument out there. Any halfway experienced technician or DIY person should be able to open it up and at least perform some basic checks to see if all cables are plugged in and if the PSU is working correctly.

  • What type of MachineDrum? (Mk i/ii UW? +Drive?)

  • Did this just happen one day? Or have you been having intermittent issues?

  • If so, anything of note recently? Moved house / room / setup? Any electrical storms?

  • Can you do a sanity check on the power supply, ensure that you have the right one, they can behave erratically with the wrong psu. Also try in a different location, straight from wall socket.

  • Have you tried the System Diagnostics? Hold down [FUNC] on power up, select option form menu with the appropiate [STEP] key. What are the results?

  • Have you tried a factory reset? (This will reset, and you’ll lose your kits/patterns, last resort scenario) Hold down [FUNC] on power up, what happens?

  • Where are you located? Know anyone else or store with an MD? Can you try with another power supply? (Remember they are different between MkI and MkII models)

A guy had the same problem on a french forum. After several days (and a lot of worried messages & replies…) he finally realized he was using the wrong power supply (his Analog Four ´s power supply I think) with his MD . The MD was stucked on the Boot Screen with weird symbols… Check this out twice may be…
