What would be interessting is, if it would be possible to build a standalone Push without Battery. For people who want to get rid of a computer but don´t care a wire more.
Does the current Standalone version boot up if the battery is removed? If not, the BIOS or Linux OS is checking for the presence of the battery (much like a laptop), and will not work.
Has anybody succeeded to boot with a different compute module in the end?
No, but I did swap in a 1TB SSD
The NUC 13 Compute Element has been out for a little while now. Has Ableton said anything about compatibility?
I’m guessing we’re going to see something more like 24-36 month cycles for Push CPU upgrades. Assuming Ableton actually follows through, I wouldn’t expect to see anything until at least Spring 2025.
It’s an interesting idea, but it would be highly unexpected for Ableton to comment on a possible aftermarket modification like that.
Most likely, the NUC bundled with the standalone and upgrade kits has some degree of customization at the BIOS level, not to mention the software having a fair number of things hardcoded for the NUC version P3 was developed with. If there is someone out there who is equal parts firmware hacker and Ableton fan, maybe we’ll see some experiments.
All that said, I would imagine Ableton is evaluating the NUC 13, and we could likely see a revision in the standalone and upgrade kit at some point.
