Is there a way to fine-tune the pitch of the synth engines in smaller increments than semitones?
This is the first software i have considered to use for rhythms, i have more hardware drum power than i can use, but it would be nice to have a complete package. I hope it has the width i need soundwise.
I am running the trial atm and i focus on the synthesis, not interested in sample-based drums but its a nice bonus.
That said, i like this package; finally a plugin with real potential!
Someone wrote about microtonic; i have that too but this feels more like a better and more modern complete tool.
I will have to evaluate very thoroughly the coming trial period, and decide if i can justify the cost.
$129 is a bit steep at the moment, but if the plug is good enough i might consider letting it replace some hardware.
Anyway, kudos to the dev! A very good plugin and with lots of potential! Well done!
Sound is subjective and I don’t in any way mean to be rude, but listening to all the examples in the thread I can’t say I like the overall sound of it (not talking about how it sequences and modulates etc.). There’s a warbly, digital, almost like a very slight “MP3 codec sheen” on everything. My first reaction to many demos internally was “this sounds like a max patch”, if anyone understands what I mean by that - a sort of digital sparseness of sound, the opposite of what I would call organic. That’s not to say you can’t create chaotic, crazy sounds with it, I’m just talking about the pure sound.
To me it doesn’t at all sound like MicroTonic, which is in my opinion still the best sounding VST drum synth out there because of it’s fullness and smoothness. Might have some workflow similarities to Rytm, but IMO also not really any sound similarity. Wish UFA the best with it, this is just my 2c.
I agree somewhat on the sounds, but i have to dive deeper before givIng my definitive decision.
To be a complete drum solution, for me, i also need more than 8 tracks. I use maybe 18-20 per tune. But maybe there is a solution baked in somewhere there, we’ll see.
Thanks a lot for the update! I can wait, but am very happy to hear it will eventully get to IOS. Am severely tempted by the Mac version, as I really like the look and sound of this one, but it is the kind of app, that definitely would work much better for me on the iPad.
(Hope other of your amazing apps might eventually go this route also. The existing ports are all stellar, and an IOS version of LION would be sweet!)

They should quote you on this for the marketing sounds amazing.
Right? I hear that description and I think
//take my money meme
fair enough fr! sound is subjective.
Not tried this one yet, am excited to, I own most UA plugins. Wondering how close using another drum synth with their plugins like Fault would get to some of the sounds I’m hearing.
I picked this up last night (with Lion) and it’s pretty insane the sheer amount of timbre-shaping options. Even experimenting with very low randomization (like 3-5%) on a preset kit things get out of control quickly, with a lot of soloing of individual sounds needed to try and figure out what is happening. Using the choke groups can help rein things in, and using one track to choke the reverb gets things into Autechre/Devine territory easily. I saved a few of these kits with the intention of sampling individual randomized freakout sounds (which often never repeat) in Simpler or a hardware sampler to have more control over them.
My next session will be starting from a default and building a kit sound by sound and figure out how to get the modulations more controlled and usable as an actual drum machine, versus a source of warped sound design.

Plz update as you progress.
i hear that description and think, must be that Richard Devine’s example. He makes everything sound like that.
(or its the distortion and/or very fast random mod which happens when theres lots of notes in the seq)
Purchased Battalion. It’s amazing, love it
been messing with the demo , really good … something that I would really like is a record button for manually entering events into its sequencer - I know thats prob old skool but imo always nice to have that option
Can we look forward to an iOS release? Bought the Unfiltered Audio effects suite day one!

Can we look forward to an iOS release?
Yep! No ETA yet, as there are two components that need to happen first: We like to wait a little bit to make sure the version that we’re about to port to iOS is very stable, as iOS is its own can of worms. We have a sample distribution contract addendum with NI since we’re using sounds from their library. We’re working with them on getting the sample library cleared for a different distribution system. Also, I’ll need some time off to get my head screwed back on straight after two years of t…
Has anyone tried to do anything melodic with Battalion yet - you know, for funsies?
I missed that! Thanks!
I’m sharing this, it’s a bit slow and long but I quickly saved the patterns created last night, sometimes the transitions by pressing the arrow lol. I made loops of the patterns on M+ and I played the whole thing. I layered it with a drum, I think it’s playable with the software because the djembe sound and others all come from Battalion, but I likes to record the drums with my fingers, it was simpler. don’t hesitate to advance the reading because there’s a lot but I tried to keep something musical and you have melodic things ( you can use long sequence like OT
I really like Battalion because it’s very vast in the territory and very Elektron friendly (the mastery of randomness and sweetspots), I think you have to try it in any case ;), the sample part is ultimately simpler in implementation and recall of elektrons machines, doing the same thing in bitwig for example is more complete but you have to build, because the simple modulations and the sequencer are more direct.
I am a fan of Microtonic we find the morph and sweetspot side, Stroke for the controlled random side, Nerve for the side I put a Tremor Geist sample etc, as for the sound it depends on the use because certain things are quickly recognizable, other sounds and sequences could have come out of an AR or an OT, the sound engines can also make slow drones, for me it’s quite a success. Hoping for minimum pattern management because it’s not very “live” compatible…
@Choppy, this is great – I really like the feel! Thank you for sharing. Is everything Battalion, or just most of it.
Thanks again.
thank you very much everything comes from Battalion except when there is a well-marked kick snare hi-hat (M+) but always in layer with Batallion, it is done with the M+ in standalone. the PC serving as a sound module here. Some ‘‘melodies’’ are made with battalion synth engines and others with sample engines. I sampled a note from a Lion patch (nice gift) which I put into the eight engines with different pitches and I fiddled like a super arpeggiator. Once all the sequences were recorded with the looper (it was ultimately quick and almost live, but it could be better if you didn’t have to press the arrow to change the pattern ;), I arranged live with the errors that go with it , forgot to sequence and fx delay and perfomfx incorrectly engaged. So basically, the essential is battalion, then fx live M+ during recording. Thank you for listening anyway, even if it’s Jam-related, I like the instantaneous, the controlled randomness and the ephemeral anyway. Battalion is in my arsenal now because it fits all of that
