I’ve seen plenty of layouts with graphics at touchosc discord. You may want to check.
Ableton. I wonder if some of the config.txt(?) options might make it worse.
Cheers, I’ll have a look.
Strange though, there’s a reddit reply from the TouchOSC dev from just 18 days ago stating there’s no graphic import yet.
Unless you mean recreating stuff by using shapes or unicode?
Honestly not that bothered though… the layouts really just have to look neat and be functional. Colour coding goes a long way too.
One pretty neat way to solve control from external hardware is to provide one midi channel that is “panel mode”. Some synths with layer options have this, the Nord Lead 3 for instance. Then, one midi channel work just like if you tweaked the synth panel/GUI itself. So, for instance, the filter cutoff has a single CC, and what layer/voice(s) it controls depend on the currently selected channel/layer(s), just like if you tweaked the filter knob on panel/gui. You could then use midi note on that channel to select voice, just like clicking on the interface. The nice thing with this is that you can quite easily map a hardware controller to work just like a physical panel for the synth, without having to map gazillions of different parameters. (Though, optimally, you would want that to have it’s own midi in directly into the plugin, and not via the DAW midi, so you can also record tweaks as automation, and not as midi that changes function depending on what’s selected in the GUI).
Are you sure you can actually access 128 cc parameters without totally hanging the midi buffer ?
That maybe would explain the limit. ( I’m no ableton user btw )
It’s funny that I find the plethora of parameters in battallion a chore, especailly in iOS where you have to scroll thru an infinite list of exposed parameters to find the two you want to automate.
Everyone has slightly different needs it seems ! ![]()
Exactly what I was saying! The modulation buttons should change what the incoming MIDI targets. Keep it as 1:1 with using the mouse.
As long as it still works either way (direct to plugin/via DAW), as I’d like to mix and match methods. I’m automating via hardware (Hapax).
My technical knowledge is limited so I’m not sure what the ‘midi buffer’ is. However, my Ableton project has thousands of mappings, almost every CC on every channel and many more OSC mappings too.
Obviously only a limited number will be getting tweaked/automated/lfo’d at one time, but I need them all mapped for instant control.
In my experience, 7-bit CC’s don’t tend to stress the DAW much even if you send a ton of them (unless you start using audio rates etc).
So it seems silly that you can have thousands per project, but only 128 per plugin instance!
That’s exactly it though! That’s what I’m working to avoid! Now when I’m automating Battalion (desktop), I do this:
Hit Rec on my Hapax
Wiggle the knob on my Ipad screen
Now the knob dances on the Ipad and also on the Mac monitor.
It works perfectly. The automation is stored on the Hapax. Can also send LFO from the Hapax to any knob.
I’ll do a little video to show it in action.
Btw, what are you using to automate on the Ipad? Aum? Because on Drambo you can click map and just move a control and it will become available for mapping. Still not instant and you can only prepare a certain number in advance as it stresses the CPU. But no scrolling through lists!
I have a feature request for your consideration please:
MIDI and OSC sent out from the plugin
Change a Voice Preset, and all the controls send their CC message at once.
This will allow two-way communication between the plugin and external controllers. Then their layout will be in sync with the plugin when loading sounds or kits!
Ideally, we could select any control, and enable it to send and/or receive a MIDI and/or OSC message.
Best case scenario a control can send and receive MIDI and OSC simultaneously.
Many thanks!
Some of the things I’d like to see :
-Clear pattern
-Being able to change between patterns and automate that (I think that’s been requested a lot already)
-Being able to lock more parameters to a step in the sequencer (for instance macro 1, filter cutoff, distort or just allow us to choose the parameter like its the case in some other plugins).
I might think of a few more things later
Need to research this feature on loopy ! Thx !
Anyone else finding that opening and closing the plugin window causes a huge spike in CPU?
On Ableton 12, Mac Mini M4 here. Happens even in an empty project with one Battalion.
Getting a red CPU light at the top-left of the screen, and audible break/dropout in the sound.
Yes, here too. With Battalion, BassMint and the Arturia plugins (only when opening the plugin windows). Totally fine with Reason Rack and other plugins.
MacBook Air M1
Just checked it again with Reason and Logic Pro. There is a short crackling noise when I open the plugin window.
I have that too (small audio pop when I open the plugin window, M1 pro chip).
same here , audio drops out for a second when opening the gui - running inside Live12 on an m4 pro - it also did it when I had an m2
On it! Thanks for the reports.
Quick question : Is it possible to open a preset and just clear to whole sequencer section while keeping the sounds? Or do I have to manually clear the notes and reset the knobs and each parameter line individually?
my very low fi work around when this problem arises in other vsts is to make a blank slate empty pattern preset and a preset with the same name +_Pattern that has a pattern on it, if i tweak too many settings and forget how i got there or randomize too much it gets saved as a new preset Presetv2 etc
that being said, a clear pattern button would be great ![]()
I’m kinda like this. I don’t recall how long it took but I took the time to reset everything then saved it as “default” preset. Then I load that when I need a clean slate. Can always save the preset that’s gone off the rails crazy if I want to keep it. I also save a preset with a numbered suffix as it evolves with the song I’m working on. And yes, the song gets saved with that same numbered suffix. I know, I’m weird.
only thing weird is you stuck to it, while everyone else tries this once and gets lazy after ![]()
The funny thing is when you get to version 3.14 of a song/preset/mix and it always becomes the pi version…
