UDO DMNO synth

This seems to have a lot more going on synthesis-wise, IMO, with the mixing modes and stuff. I’m not sure the Delia is the best thing to measure against.

The Super 6 Desktop synth module is £1769, the keyboard version is £2299, the Super 8 is £2899 (Thomann prices). I think the DMNO is going to be £2500ish, maybe a bit less. Can’t see it being cheaper than the Super 6.

Why glitch an announcement if they don’t show it ?
At the worst they only show it to VIPs.

I love how when he’s talking about the size of the synth, he says you can’t lift it by yourself. Pan to me taking the Super Gemini out of it’s pouch by myself. I must have looked absolutely ridiculous doing it. (similar size)

Now I’m definitely happy I saved Tonverk money :joy:

I like the LED screen. Never seen one like that before.

Yeah, I might be quite off the mark. I was thinking of what other dual-timbral synths it’s competing against.

(As an aside, I have a sneaky suspicion that Cuckoo might have done some sound design for this)

I don’t know if it was you, but there was someone that posted Posy’s youtube channel with his vids on RFD and I realized that’s what they are and I had an immediate euphoric nostalgia

Obligatory.

It’s really cool that he’s returned back to the original concept for his first polysynth, and made it into a proper product.

“It was gonna be an eight voice bi-timbral analogue synthesiser”.

It’s possible, I can’t remember off the top of my head. I used a VFD similar to the one in the image of the Domino above in a SID Station Rack project I did with a relative of mine back in the late 90s.

 I actually bought one, arrived today. Honestly, started messing and got something going super fast, and it sounds great. It did cross my mind thou as I was lifting it out of the box after seeing this about 10mins before.

So will this always be two layers with a limit of four voices or can you also just use it with one layer and get eight voices (like Rev 2 8 voice)?

He listened to our feedback. Holy crap Batman

That’s a good question! I can’t tell from what’s been presented/leaked so far. However it does say 8 Voice Polyphonic Synthesizer on it. Personally I would take that to mean that 8 notes can be played with whatever it’s doing behind the panel.

I know it’s different with the Super series where like for the Gemini they say 20 Voice, but it’s 10 with Binaural on. I also think that’s a different use-case though because you are effectively doubling the amount of voices you need to create the stereo effects. So it kind of makes sense in that context to count the voices that way.

With the Domino, I would think it would be counted the opposite due to the way the panel appears to be laid out, and what the tricks of the synth appear to be. (if we’re all reading into it correctly)

Just speculation though.

Even if it was four with everything it’s doing those are probably going to be four very massive voices, so it may not be a big deal. My guess though is 8.

It could be some sort of FourmFourm.

DuoFourm!

If the original prototype from the video was based on Prophet 5 rev 2 envelopes and filters, it could actually be some sort of Duofourm with TVS-pro kind of interface.

The Rev2 (if I remember correctly) used the SSM2040, while the Rev3 used CEM. I think anyway. I could be off by one rev there.

We saw mention of “multi-core” filters. This makes me THINK it’s an SSI2140 with pole mixing for multiple modes. A cascaded four pole (like in the Prophet) would be one of those modes.

Guesswork, but seems logical. He also used the SSI2144 Ladder Filter in the Super series, so the jump from that to the 2140 isn’t too much of a stretch.

Or, he could be using a CEM equivalent with the same sort of topology. There are some CEMs that would be able to do the same thing.

Edit: Yes, the Prophet 5 Rev1 and Rev2 used SSM2040. The Rev3 used the CEM3320.

I’m gonna need to see more angles, but I think this might be the best looking UDO synth yet.

I was never a big fan of the orange on the other white synths tbh. AFAICT they’ve done away with that on this. The SEM-like silkscreening and greenish screen just make it look sort of retro-futureish in the best way. The black knobs and fader caps are a win too, somehow looks a lot more premium than the white ones on the other synths IMO.

I bought a Super 8 for its sound and great user experience regarding the interface, but to be honest, it is one of the most beautiful object I ever owned. However I agree with you, from that picture so far, this new synth design is just perfection.
