UDO Audio Super 6 Binaural Synth

Iam interested in the opinion from UDO 6 users why somebody should choose the UDO instead of a Polybrute.

Because I prefer the sound of the Super 6.

Setting aside all the myriad features like I/O, polyphony, etc aside almost all synth comparisons come down to: 1) do I like how it sounds?; and 2) do I enjoy playing and programming it?

Sound you can get a pretty good sense of from Youtube and manufacturer demos. Interfaces are the really hard thing to evaluate from afar, and I think also the most personal. What’s intuitive and fun for one person could be annoying or a slog for another. Do you like getting deep into programming, or do you just want to play and make minor tweaks to presets? Do you have space for and/or need another keyboard? Does a sequencer matter to you? Etcetera…

I had the Super 6 Desktop for a while, and while I loved the sound I didn’t dig the interface. I suspect I would have enjoyed the keyboard version more but didn’t have a chance to try it out in person.

I ended up getting a Polybrute 12, which I dig for both it’s sound and interface. But it’s also a behemoth!

I stand by it being mostly a matter of interface preferences. There’s a ton of overlap, but the Polybrute is easier to make ā€œmorphingā€ patches with and the Super 6 makes it easier to do phasing/detuned/binaural stuff. And no screen/menus on the Super 6 — for both good and ill.

UDO is a rawer and more beautiful sound.

I had the og polybrute before I bought the super 6. I think they are great sounding synthesizers - I can’t say that I like one better than the other.
I would say that Super 6 has an emphasis on stereo and prominent sounds but it is hard for me to get sounds out of it that remind me on acoustic instruments or EP.
Exactly what Polybrute does well: emulating acoustic instruments or EP flavours, … It also has a better modulation interface (grid, sequencer, controls, morphee). On the other hand I wasn’t happy with classic vintage roland synthesizer sounds. The Super 6 is suitable for those sounds.
Unfortunately I have no space for both.

Thx to all who answered!

This could be a price difference between the original runs and ones with the keybed update (for Poly AT). Not sure, just speculating.

I thought so too at first but then I checked and they are almost all without the keybed update. And the Thomann price is also without the keybed update.

Perhaps Thomann reduced their price recently and the private sellers haven’t noticed?

What are ā€œboatsā€?

That’s what the little chassis that most 4U modulars are installed in are referred to as. Think box that a Serge panel is installed in.

(It also leads to fun Jaws quotes when one runs out of space…)

Here’s an orange one that I was referring to:

I can see how those orange boats would look great with Gemini. Or even a blue Super 6.

Those Stroh modules have elegant panel designs. Like something from the Nostromo computer cabin.

Thank you! Actually Mother is often an inspiration! Love that room. If I could recreate the entire room, I would.
