UDO Audio Super 6 Binaural Synth

there is also the often overlooked e7 by GS Music

Very stable. MIDI sync might be the biggest issue, to me the sync is mostly wonky, I never felt it was tight with the midi clock it’s receiving.

I mean, TEO is analog, so that’s def not a VA, and both Peak and S6 have analog filters, so they aren’t either by definition. That being said, S6 has a VERY polite filter, so filter driving isn’t a big thing, even with the dedicated drive knobs. I sold mine after a while because it could never get away from that pleasant but not gritty sound. I’ve heard that the VCA adjustment on the newer UDO synths help a lot with that, I really wish UDO would consider making that available in some way in a desktop form (a V2 S6 or just a desktop S8 or something).

Another thing that helps a lot with that is a Strymon Deco V2. A tad of tape saturation or overdrive can work wonders when it comes to ā€œgrittifyingā€ gentle digital tones.

I’ve only had the Super 6 for a week, but I find it really versatile and love its sound.

No firmware issues either so far.

Guess it largely depends on what you mean by ā€œgrittyā€, but here are some (poorly played) not-pleasant patches I made this afternoon. YMMV.

No external FX, played straight from the Super6 into an audio interface (TASCAM Model16, which is pretty clean).

They’re good sounds but no I don’t consider them gritty, personally. And to be clear, I’m not saying I think the S6 sounds bad, it just didn’t fit my music very well. The Prophet 5 works much better for me.

Would you be willing to post some P5 patches with the grit you like? It’d be fun to see how close we could get with the S6.

Can anybody help me figering out if/How to get different portamento time settings for each oscillator? (e.g. like with the Subsequent 37 or Dreadbox Erebus/Nyx). So That each Oscillator needs a different time to Hit the next Note?
Thanks in advance!

It’s not possible

I basically sold my entire studio (synth-wise) and got the Gemini. Zero regrets on that decision. It and the DN2 are pretty much it, with the exception of my occasional modular builds.

If they ever make a blue one that’s as beautiful as my Super 6 then I’ll be tempted too.

Love the blue, and typically I’m a blue synth fanatic (having made a few blue ones myself over the years). However, in the case of the Gemini, I absolutely love the grey and orange. Reminds me a bit of the Hartman Neuron for one, and I’ve also been using orange boats for my modular modules, so I’ve got a bit of a theme going now.

Fair enough, it just isn’t a colour scheme for me. I’m also pretty happy with my Super 6 so no rush to chop and change.

That’s a deep cut. I want to try one of them, have literally never seen one outside of reviews from back in the day.

To keep things OT, I originally had a blue super 6 and I traded it for a white module. Both have their appeal, but I do miss the blue super 6. It freed up a nice space for me to try some other things with though. Now I’m thinking about VESA mounting the module off the side of my synth stand so I can free up room for another keyboard - next year - I’m almost 2/3 of the way through NGNY.

Yeah, I never got to try one either, but there was someone that had posted some demos way back when that were pretty cool. I just liked the look of it. The Sunsyn is another one from back then that looks good, and has orange on it. (Oh! and my lovely XT and XTk)

Yeah, VESA mounting a module to the side would be cool! I always wanted to do that with my smaller Elektrons, but I use them more outside the studio than in, so I never have. (though I have VESA mounted pairs of them together before)

I hadn’t planned on participating in NGNY at all really, but after swapping everything out for the Gemini, I haven’t bought another piece of gear since, (well, not synth/music related) so I guess I am participating. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t get the second hand prices for the Super 6 here in Europe. On Reverb right now, they range from €2400 to €2600.

I can order a brand new one from Thomann for €2399!

Or am I missing something here?

I don’t see the Super 6 offered at 2399€. Thats a nice offering!

The platform kleinanzeigen.de shows offerings from 1800 to 2000 €.

I was about to sell mine to save money for a prophet 5. But after a 2h session with it I decided to keep it forever  I don’t need another synth keyboard anymore.
The drift is really nice to shape the character of the synth and I can feed the outputs in a OTO BƩbƩ mixer to saturate the audio a little bit (the limited onbard drive option can easily be compensated).
In this mind changing session I used the cycling envelope mode and the audio in a lot (you can trigger envelopes with external sources or use a stereo signal to mix in the osc section). It’s cool how this synth rewards one when experimenting.
