Twisted Electrons MEGAfm

This synth is incredible with CB Lossy, especially on noisy patches.
Lossy picks up a lot of the noise at shift it into incredible results… I highly recommend the pairing

That sounds nice!

New firmware update was released last week -

R3.6 Updated Jan 25th 2024
-Added Rate Scaling function
Hold LFO loop button and adjust the detune knob to change the rate scaling of each operator

-Fixed a bug causing sequencer to add a corrupt note at the end of the sequence

I’m not quite sure what rate scaling is in this context, any ideas? I’ll play around with it soon anyway. Maybe it allows you to scale the envelope timing so you can have a really fast/slow attack?

Detail about the rate scaling has been added to the latest version of the manual -

As it says the higher up the keyboard you play the faster it will go if you use a setting of 1/2/3, at 0 it’s a fixed rate across the keyboard. A 0 setting is actually very useful for looping envelopes if you wanted the looping notes to all have consistent timing if you’re going for particular polyrhythms. Before when using looping envelopes higher notes would loop faster and you had no control over it.

The scaling settings are also good if you’re making very plucky sounds and want finer control with the decay rate fader by setting it to 3. Or vice versa for long pads.

I’m not sure yet if this update has fixed that bug where looping envelope timings weren’t getting saved properly in presets, but hopefully it has.

Is anyone else having problems with crashing? I’ve updated to 3.6 and seems to crash in unison and when changing arp settings.

I haven’t had that but I don’t use the arpeggio much. I’ll try to test that out next time I use it.

crazy post ! thanks for this !

I just keep coming back lusting on this synth; i’m thinking of selling my osmose for this, as i think i should more productive on this one as i’m born with a dx7 and raised with a megadrive. Still edition and gain seem’s to give far more soul than most MD/genesis soundtrack.

Just wondering if it’s easy to find some YM2612 on those days, i see some on ebay. anyone has experience on this ?

All I’ve heard is that there are many fakes, and you’d be better off harvesting them from actual consoles.

Too much hassle for me, and it seems most people think the same. I still haven’t seen anyone actually doing the chip switch in a Mk2.

I’d recommend holding out for a Mk1, unless you like these sort of projects!

Btw what settings are you guys using now? Just tried to web-settings too and realized there is a new settings for the fat tuning but not sure what will give best results. Just curious to know what others use.

Right now I’m using the settings recommended by Limbikbits since om mostly using the presents from them.

FYI, there’s one on Reverb at the moment, in the event that you happen to be in the UK, that from the serial number would appear to be a MKI, though the seller has copied in the description of the MKII

How can I tell from the serial number if mine is a MK1 or 2?

Just to judge from pics online, the MK1 ones begin MFM and the MKIIs begin MFMII…

Didn’t´t get a response here or from Twisted Electrons.

How do you guys manage saving patches and not ovewriting existing ones?

Yes mine has MFMII printed in the label and it’s a mk2 :relaxed:

I just only save over the preset that I’m on, and go sequentially up through the init patches until I’ve filled a bank. Maybe email a feature request for some way to protect a preset from being overwritten?

I did at the end of 2023:

The thing that’s presently driving me crazy about this synth is that…it drops smoothly into the Roland K-25m boutique keyboard. The width is perfect. It feels like it belongs there. Just an absolutely useless flawless coincidence

Not sure if I am making things better or worse for you with this …
