Really enjoying this one as well, horror with just enough humor to keep it from being cheesy.

The second season of Sugar on Apple TV is just getting going. We really enjoyed the first season. I’d describe it as a present day noir detective story set in L.A. with some pretty wild surprises worked into the story.
It seems like season 2 may be lacking some of the more wild developments of the first season’s story. But it’s only 2 episodes in, so it could go anywhere.
Either way, it’s beautifully shot and has a fresh look and feel compared to a lot of television. If you haven’t seen season 1 and like shows that are a little off beat, I’d say give it a try.
EDIT if you plan on checking it out, avoid reading too much about it. It looks like some online summaries of the show give away spoilers without any warning.

Sugar caught me by surprise in a great way. I just put it on one day as background noise and got hooked quick.

Tbh, everything I’ve clicked on Apple TV has been at very least worth watching. It’s very impressive really. Just a couple of exceptions so far and none were like omg bad.
The most ironic thing about it is that off first glance, I wouldn’t think I’d like any of it.

Haven’t had Apple TV in a while but I remember being very impressed that they seemed to go for quality over quantity. Stark contrast to something like Netflix or Amazon where sometimes I have to wade through a ton of slop to find something worth watching.

They just got nominated for something like 61 Emmy’s this year, Apple is definitely bringing their A game.

Agreed. I keep Netflix strictly for stand up comedy. I’m a laugh junky despite the fact I don’t really ever laugh.

Yes! Same here. Lots of good specials the past few years. Except I laugh, probably too much and too loudly. That’s why I watch standup by myself. 
They also have a lot of good nature documentaries. But I keep threatening to cancel because the movies and shows have really dropped off, imho. There’s also a strange formulaic sheen/vibe/taste to a lot of things Netflix produces in-house, imho.

I can dig it. Im one of those guys with the internal hysteria. Outwardly, a great comic gets a smirk. Lol, lmao, etc=smirk irl.
I’m such a geek when it comes to writing that I’m breaking down the structure and punchlines as they’re speaking. I can’t shut my brain off. Same happens when I’m watching film, listening to music.
I enjoy it all, but in my mind I’m constantly criticizing it and taking mental notes for my own creations. My wife calls me Mr Spoiler

Yeah we’ve enjoyed Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Friends and Neighbors, seemed like the types of show I wouldn’t be my style, but they were all excellent.
For me, one exception was Cape Fear, tried one episode and it felt like an unfocused mess. Maybe it got better.

Cape Fear is pissing me off but knowing the creators—this is intended. I would say the casting, acting and production quality are all good enough to keep me watching but I def understand why you pass.

Fave Apple TV shows so far: Ted Lasso, Severance, Drops of God
Foundation is ok. I watch because I enjoyed reading the novels but the other Apple shows set such a high standard that I hesitate to include this one in the company of the others.

I’m pretty sure I’ve said it in here before, but Apple TV is hands down the best return on my investment when it comes to streaming apps. The only show I’ve not been in to was that Alaska fugitive show. Sunny was great. Silo, Foundation, Friends & Neighbors, Shrinking, Secerence, and most of all Ted Lasso have all been fire. It’s like HBO back in the day with a sci-fi twinge. Quality over quantity. And I think they’re really hitting their stride now that they’ve built up some IP.

Anyone catch the latest season of Gangsters of London? Wondering if it’s worth downloading. First season surprised me but did start to come apart a bit toward the end of the second.
House of Dragons is off to a reasonable start so far.
Absolutely agree. I can barely stand watching some shows on Netflix just because their production quality has a cheap feel to it. For example, backgrounds in a scene often have a digital blur like it was a FaceTime call. Takes me out of the story sometimes. It’s obvious Apple has higher budgets for their shows.

Same here. I wrote a couple of screenplays and a book back in the day. So I’m always highly critical. Not that mine were any good at all! Just that I know some tricks by reading, writing, and watching way more content than I ever should have over the decades.
Hard to switch off the critic brain and just enjoy sometimes. But if something breaks the mold/formulas and surprises me, I go nuts with joy. Seems like Apple definitely has a leg up on the competition in that regard.
