We’ve been enjoying watching some shows from the 2010s. Back when a show would only take a year between seasons (for the most part) and seasons had at least 10 episodes.
Some good ones i never got around to watching until now: Anomal Kingdom, Orphan Black, Southland.
Orphan Black has fantastic performances from the lead actress, handling multiple roles very convincingly.
Started watching the beast in me last night, really very good, Claire danes and matthew rhys are a compelling pairing, only two episodes in but I think this one’s gonna be special…
welll… we all can freely have interpretations and mine is no more valid for sure,
but I see the protagonist rather not as unable to get along with anyone else, rather than just being embittered and grown distant by the way his writing job ended up, becoming rich writing nonsense would challenge anyone to question their relation with their customers, I think… I mean she gets on well with her audience, never being mean to them… but kinda splitting hairs… maybe just 'cos I like the series so much
Oh totally and I didnt mean it critically, I really do think it’s interesting to have her be a pessimistic, mistrusting grouch vs the hivemind of contentment
i belatedly realized that one reason Carol projects so much hate onto the hive (consciously or subconsciously) is because it treats her exactly like Helen treated her.
at the airport, she guilts Helen into rearranging the display so her book is on the top row. which Helen dutifully complies with
at the ice hotel, even though Carol does nothing but complain about the room and the bed and the cold, Helen refuses to take the bait and only wants to focus on the natural wonder of seeing the northern lights through their window
I’m absolutely loving Pluribus. No one makes shows that look like Vince Gilligan.
When Carol was reading the excerpt from her book, I told my wife she sounds like a Diana Gabaldon-esque fantasy-smut author. When she moved the Gabaldon books off the shelf for hers, I was cackling.
For me i’ve been watching a lot of early 70’s stuff. The Persuaders. Department S. But The Twilight Zone from the 60’s is my all time favourite. Rod Sterling. Bernard Herrmann soundtracks as well in some.
its been good so far, the visual fx continue to be good…ive never read the books but theyve established a good ‘origin’ story and its easy to how how they might expand it if season 2 is greenlit.
i think theres still a few more of season 1 to appear.
The War Between the Land and the Sea - Nice suspence and scifi elements right away. It could have been promising but the script is heavily slanted to neonatalism or hatred and blame towards humans. Feels predictable and the second episode was mostly waiting for the ride to end once the theme became evident.
i havent watched dr who for a while, but i did suspect that it was going to be heavy on the global warming / humans are bad … they’re not subtle with the writing on those shows though theyre aimed at children so perhaps it has to be more obvious… the main actor is ussually good in things. (Russel Tovey)
there was a ‘dr who at the proms’ event on tv a while ago, playing the music with a few guest actors on it… that was good …
It would be pretty cool if the show did a meta plot against the audience and flipped on the greenwashing and went somewhere unexpected. I guess this is the time to recommend watching a couple of clips from “They live”.
…since i quit my netflix subscription because of more doomscrolling than entertainment earlier this year, i ask…how bad or against all odds surprisingly good “stanger things” last chapter turns out…?
