This is such a versatile sequencer. I have used it in laptop only setup and daw less as well with no issues. It also doubles as a knobby controller, which is incredibly cool.
I just hope they get back to updating it. It needs some work still so we can save templates, live play into it, and other qol things. I know there is a beta out but I’d like something stable soon.
The s4 being so unfinished and raw makes me nervous that they will not get back to their true gem- the t1, anytime soon.
Would love a way to back up projects and edit to see what’s what after a month of jamming with it.
I’m really tempted to get one of these. It feels like it fits my way of working really well. But the whole update thing is a concern, with how the S4 seems to have gone. I feel for early buyers on that one, and Torso needs to take care of them too.
What do you mean by “live play into it”? Since that’s more of how I’m looking to use it.
Does that mean you cannot save projects / diff setups back and forth to the computer?
I love a new firmware as much as the next guy - but - there’s so much in the T-1 that’s already great, that I’m happy if it stays as it is…I’ve had one for around 6 months now, and there are still new things to explore or to try…
There is no way to save templates that I am aware of. So if you have a setup mapped out with CCs and midi mappings you have to copy that across all projects and hope it’s clean (ie - no random engaged or anything else)
The beta addresses this. And I believe it also allows you to play into the t-1 and it will record what you played. I may be wrong there. But that’s what I mean by live play.
That’s why I am loving the sequencer already but disagree that it doesn’t need any more updates. It really still does for me.
A project is the whole memory content, i.e. all 16 Banks, and currently it’s the only backup method allowed up to final 2.0.14 f/w; it is reported not working on some particular combination of pc/Mac and OS, Torso said a better backup method is on top of their todo list. Anyway I never had issues with this (since f/w 1.3 to 2.0.14).
Recent beta f/w introduced a feature for backup/restore of single banks; again, it works for me.

Was not sure if I could say have a “DAW” project and a “Hardware” project and swap between the two with the software
I suggested a technique for templates: leave an empty Bank (16 would be a favorite) and save there your collection of “template patterns” which you can recall (i.e. copy to clipboard and paste) when needed.
Use T-1 Config Beta for backup/restore of single Banks, with a caveat: some pc/Mac OS won’t complete the backup and exit with an error message. Until Torso fix it.
No proper live recording yet; the “MIDI looper” trick is just that, a trick. Feature requests on various “live” input methods have been opened on Discord, but as Torso are still working hard on the S-4 we know nothing about their roadmap.
Yeah it’s a decent workaround but obviously them getting that beta cleaned up would be optimal.
The S4 is so far from being worth $1000 that I am sure they are trying to fix that first. Which really hurts the t-1 owners.
14 months since the last final release and dozens of feature requests pending, it’s quite a wait. Fortunately the T-1 is definitely usable and amusing as it is, so we can make some crazy music while we wait

For project export, if necessary, i record midi session in other sequencers. So i can edit them with other tools and processes
But, mainly, i just play and improvise. That’s the better way to mastering the T1 and try other things than the same template. This can drive to nice mistakes and satifying discovers. TheT1 is, for me, a tool to produce surprises and nice patterns.
Agreed. I really do love this piece of gear.
Honestly, my hunch is that this isn’t a feature that’s going to make sense for them to include — if they didn’t already have fx and cc tracks, maybe, but the interface space is pretty full at this point. You’re probably better off pointing this at one of the midi recorder apps or an rk008 — I think it’ll be a better user experience overall. Looper plus fast generator is a nice combo anyway.
Eh, I don’t really feel hurt by it? Like, I kickstarted this and it does so so much more now than it did on release. Having watched how that went, I’m very comfortable that they’re going to go back and release fixes for the remaining bugs and at least a bit more polish/feature requests that make sense, as soon as they can. It got two or three years (counting dev time) of undivided attention, and them taking a year or two with it in a pretty good state to bring something else cool into the world before they go back to this is fine.

As suspected, this fits my style, 10 minutes of playing around and I got the jest (other than MIDI issues, but that’s not the Torso’s fault, I suck with MIDI:)
I have an OXI One and still have a hard time wrapping my head around it, so this is an big improvement in terms of just being able to get some sounds going.
I would have love it, so i could have record chords from another sequencer then modify them with T1.
But, right, i can play an other sequencer, modify it live with T1 and record in a third one…

I’ve been playing a bit with the midicake arp+t1+rk008 combo and it’s pretty sweet, honestly…
Also a nice, cheap and portable companion for the T1 is the Roland J6.
You can use it as a chord midi controller for other synths (and its internal Juno sounds) sequencing it with a simple monophonic sequence from the T1, getting 4 note chords (with also arp and variations)
I played with it a bit, but ultimately preferred the same workflow with scaler2 on my ipad
