I’d love to hear the granular engine on its own rather than with all the fx and twiddling so quickly. I love the idea of granular but find it gets old very quickly for me. I sold my Arbhar because of this. Couldn’t fault it but just felt like I ended up in the same place with each new session

Exactly. In that way it should soon be possible. And with the generative sequencer (modulator) you might then be able to play these like a beat.

I’m glad it doesn’t. At most, being a midi host for the t1 might be convenient, but I’m happy having them separate — there’s little real benefit in having them in one device.

For a team that’s not focused on video production, that’s going to take probably a couple weeks to put together, which is time when they cannot be, you know, building it. I wouldn’t mind a blog post, but this “everything must be longform video always even well before release” is not great unless you only want Focusrite, Audiotonix, Yamaha, Roland, InMusic, MusicTribe, Noritsu, STG, Servco Pacific, Francisco Partners, and Samsung to release hardware.
And yes, the fact that half this list are huge multinationals barely interested in music which you’ve never heard of is the point.

Sound is a bit flat and sterile, FXs remind me the GR-1, but otherwise still looks (and sounds) good to me. Could be a good creative tool.
(Reminds a bit the Samplr app on IPad, I used to play with it some years ago and the biggest annoyance was file management, the biggest problem for sound app on this platform that time)

How does everyone feel about the S-4 in comparison to the OP-Field? I was about to pick up a Field and then came across this. I would mainly be using the OP-1 for its sampler and 4 track tape recorder for Art of Noise style stuff. Thanks!

Yeah that’s the thing. It looks amazing for textural stuff, but there isn’t anything out there detailing the four tracks of tape.
As the old adage goes, you should never buy a product for what it could be, only for what it currently is, but it is easy to see this maturing into a killer instrument.
Sample slicing + tweakable random modulation of slice playback, volume envelope and pitch, with that screen would make it a dream idea generator/mangler.
Then no one would pre-order this, as there really isn’t enough information from the snippets posted so far (even the 2-minute “first look”) to know what it actually is. I don’t see how anyone can reasonably extrapolate to what it might be in future.

We know its a 4 track loop player/granular synth/polyphonic sample player, resonator and FX box with a lot of modulation options.
Have we seen a demo of how it works? No. But, given the fact that we’ve all used a DAW and hardware instruments to make sound, we know what it is, in essence, because they told us what it is.
The devil is in the details, though. I want it to work out for you. I want your optimism to be rewarded. I have personally been burned in this way, and I have watched others be disappointed by different devices before. But everyone approaches new possibilities in their own way. I doubt this device is for me, but I’ve been wrong about that before, and in any case I will keep watching.

I trust Torso to deliver a unique, well designed product as they did with the T-1. Maybe that trust will prove to be misplaced, but they earned my early preorder with the T-1 and its various updates and improvements.
And yes, not everyone is as trustworthy as Elektron!

I would wait on ordering s-4 maybe by on 3rd batch or 4th batch. by that time it would be more clear what real users are doing with it.
