Yes, I believe it works for them, otherwise they would not be doing it. A rather aggressiv form of marketing, but reading through different forums, there is always talk about their products.
If the S-4 is coming out around March next year (based on shipping estimates from retailers), then I would expect some deeper dives before then, but I guess weāll see. They probably are doing these teasers partly out of necessity; that is to say they arenāt quite ready to put out really in-depth videos yet. In any case I donāt think weāll be waiting that much longer for more info.
Sci-fi movie territory. Iāve owned a GR-1 and although I loved the sound design aspect, I didnāt really utilize it in any music. I just spent hours making otherworldly soundscapes, which was really cool, but I ended up selling it as it was a very big distraction. This does look much better set up like a groovebox though, so I think it could be something I really want and the price is right.
Looks much better for using on my lap too, which is mostly how I make music these days, so thatās another plus.
The way I use my GR-1 is to fill it full of recordings Iāve made in the studio - usually phrases trimmed from longer pieces (cello, flute, viola etc.). Then I use the very long grain sizes of the GR-1 (it does up to 5s chunks) and I play via a keyboard while moving the slider to plunder from different parts of the phrase. Itās like dynamically interacting with a loop and can generate some fab solo parts from existing material, at least they work for me.
Im actually kind of in the same boat⦠Iām thinking of cancelling my order because everything sounds kind of samey.
It looks really cool but Iām thinking of canceling my order and just get a Prophet 08 desktop instead⦠I just want something knobby where I donāt rely on a screen and this is kind of the opposite of that.
Iāve not been impressed at all by the demos but Iāll stick out the wait since half of its personality is surely what Iām slamming into it, like any sampler.
If the tools donāt work for me after Iāve tried it then Iāll move it to another user for them to tryā¦
For me itās all about immediacy and simplicity, with sound quality we can except from this company.
Iām still hyped
Iām most interested in the resonator stuff here. Itās been exciting to hear bits of that in one or two of these demos.
I hope they add some Echoplex-EDP-style looping functions to the tape device down the lineā¦otherwise is might be too simple for me without an integrated sequencer even if the granular/filter/reverb-parts sound great!
I am so hyped for this beast but come onā¦ā¦ who on earth is doing the demos?
Itās like the cleaner of torso electronics whoās only job was to mop the floor was given free reign of showing us what the capabilities areā:joy:
Sounds bloody gash very poor demos.
Good to know that we will be getting a similar demo weekly until March!!
Can it slice a sample?
Yeah they said it works traditionally as well as granular.
I donāt think the demos have been as bad as some people are saying but they have been a bit lackluster. I really want to hear something thatās on par with the original preview videos. Assuming those were real audio examples from the actual unit, there should be a lot of aspects to the modulation system that have yet to be demonstrated.
same! thatās the main reason Iām watching this device. Right now, Iām using a SP404 MK2 as a recorder and live fx box
I donāt get the hate in any way. These are not demos. āBut they hardly show anything.ā Yes, because theyāre teasers.
Good pointš¤
I would encourage everyone in this thread to watch a bunch of Dillon Bastan demos and not commit money to this device until some reliable review/walkthrough videos are out.
100% agree
I was also thinking about cancelling my order, but then I saw they have the standard 14 day return policy. Decided why not, try it out for a couple of weeks when itās released and see how it feels.
Yes his max patches are incredible:)
