The S-4 isn’t quite up my alley, but I do notice you can now pre-order them from Detroit Modular and their current 10% holiday coupon applies.
Yeah I was watching the kalimba video again and he starts playing in about half way through the total sample length and then it records the beginning part, so I guess some potential for looper style overdub it seems… it does kind of beg the question of how long a tape loop can actually be though, because that way very short seeming, probably the determining factor of if I want one in the future or not.
I hope they do a video on the MIDI features and using an external keyboard or sequencer to control it, effectively turning it into a sample-based synth. One of the features I’m more excited about, especially since there’s (gasp) actual sample polyphony, unlike many other products on the market.
+1
Think they’ve estimated 2-3 mins of stereo per track
Clearly Torso is reading this thread.
This looks great! This turns it into more of an “instrument” than just a sample player or FX unit. Hopefully there’s a decent amount of polyphony that can be shared across the four tracks.
That was my first thought as well. Show thyself, Torso!!!
The magic starts when the reverb is added. Maybe their not reading this thread
they even wiped the smudges off lol
Right. This wouldn’t affect my buying decision, but it was pretty embarrassing for the introduction of a new product. In all honesty, I think they should even consider a reupload.
That said, I am really looking forward to more in depth videos and reviews, super curious.
These teasers have the opposite effect on me – assuming the idea behind them is to build hype. But, for my tastes, the teasers are all quite bland and there’s not enough detail about the workflow, which is all I really want to know about when making a hardware purchase of something that “could easily be done in software”. Workflow is everything if the hardware is going to beat the software alternatives. Yet, there’s still no detailed walkthrough and no manual. So, yeah, these drip-drip teasers put me off rather than entice me. For example, that morphing resonator sounds like it’s going to turn all sounds into pretty much the same result. I’m sure that’s not the case but until someone shows me how its parameters operate and how it sounds when pushed to its extremes, there’s no way I’ll drop cash on it. Come on, T|so!
Every company could do with someone like UDO’s George Hearn to demo and talk about their stuff. Also getting the gear into the hands of different artists is a great idea, they don’t have to be big names particularly, just different styles of working and tastes for sounds they like to make.
The S-4 demos so far have been neat little teasers but yeah I definitely would like to see some deeper dives into the workflow. Livestreams can be nice too, then stuff can’t be obscured by editing.
Agreed. Obviously there strategy is to tease so more people will commit maybe they need the funds for production.
If this weren’t Torso “teasing” I’d dismiss this “strategy” in a heartbeat, but Torso being Torso I give them the goodwill to look past this marketing campaign and its decisions. I wouldn’t run it like that at all, but the product still looks very enticing to me, albeit based on what I expect of it.
Yeah these guys showed they can make a highly advanced sequencer, which is extremely difficult to do. In that way they made a hardware instrument that has not been replicated in any plugin/DAW that I am aware of, and probably will not be anytime soon. It is very hard to make a musical sounding random generator algorithm, but they pulled it off. They also put some of the best feeling swing/groove out of any sequencer I have used.
I think they are doing the ads this way because it works. It gets discussed on gear forums which is free advertising, plus they can recycle the videos as content across social channels. It is the new way forward I guess.
Not sure if they will do the YT blitz when it gets released because that really takes some budget. The T-1 was not slammed down our face on YT. I think Loopop did a vid and a few other people but it’s still a pretty underground instrument.
I know the Toro guys are very proud of the screen on this device. Apparently it is super super crisp.
Although the teasers are an offense to good taste to me, one can hear a few little exciting bits in them. And moreover, on paper it looks like something I need
It is simular to the Behringers Marketing - and that works perfect.
Are you sure that it works perfectly?
