Torso Electronics S-4 (sculpting sampler)

Yes its been done to death lately.

Yep, same feeling over here. I have the T-1 and it’s amazing because it’s quite unique even in the software world. It would be very time consuming to reproduce T-1’s features in Max or Bitwig’s grid.

Here, my first impression is ā€œmehā€ because I already have lots of very good plugins that can do that, and they don’t cost 900 euros.

But let’s see, I don’t want to be too harsh, it’s only a 40 sec video and since I’m a GAS victim like everybody here (and with the Stockholm syndrome like everybody here also) I might still end up buying this thing.

I would love to see that same demo with a nice acoustic guitar chord pick and strum

The granular in this video isn’t that interesting in itself, but I think the potential is there. If you consider the sound in the original preview videos and how it relates to what’s described of the S-4’s capabilities: four parallel sample tracks that can be tweaked with modulators mapped to any destination. It seems like it should be pretty flexible as a sample playback device where granular is just one option. I guess its real capabilities have yet to be demonstrated though…

Yup, this is what I had in mind/was hoping for. Being able to quickly record a sound and turn it into an evolving soundscape with ease. No fuss, just getting straight to the point with a great UI. I’m sure you’ll be able to mangle sounds much more than this too. Can’t wait to see more.

You still can at Perfect Circuit (next time they have a 10% discount).

the device looks very nice. time will tell if it really brings something new to the table.

I still don’t get this thing. I like how it looks, but I’m not really excited by the sounds I’m hearing.

Wish I would not have seen the video, it’s very tempting.

I can imagine using this in common with the SP-404MK2 and having a ton of resampling fun.

Prepare yourselfs for ambient videos on YouTube with this.

Yeah I was thinking this looks like a GR-1 in functionality

Yeah you’re spot on with that Burial shout. Took the geezer all of 20s to get there as well

Really tempting device, could be fun to combine a sampler and hologram-like effects in one thing.
My only doubt how deep it could be (dreaming of powerhouse machine, not with just couple of tricks)

At this rate we’ll have about 5 mins of audio before it arrives

I’m all in so not taking the pish, I’m not really bothered about the demos, especially with a sampler…
If anything I find demos put me off (which I’m pleased about).
I’ll see what it spits out round mine…

What the flying fuck is it with these guys drenching every demo in Reverb. Is this a demo for Valhalla Vintage Verb or something?

It looks awesome but I agree an in depth vid would be great. To understand the product
