I just have to say this has a bit of the scent of something that could be catastrophic for torso… one reason I could think of them launching preorders in this fashion is to gain capital to push them through the final stages. Yes they have done a box before, but it’s way less complicated than this device. If enough goes wrong on the final stages if they actually did need this extra capital, it could be it… but in all likelihood not everything goes wrong.
I’ve been a part of a preorder disaster in the past and well it started not unlike this… that said this will almost definitely come out.
I’d say hopefully the worst thing to happen is that shipping gets delayed. I wish the torso team all the best, and that they have a realistic time schedule for the last steps of development and actual production.
I wish they’d share some actual demos. I’d caution anyone preordering without demos. It could completely not accomplish anything you are expecting it will.
I’m not trying to make anybody change their mind, but it felt so stupid to give a company $900 for a really good idea. I cancelled my order. I await to hear how y’all like it!
I liked the bit when it switched (0:23) into the granular mode or whatever it and it got that little ‘rotary’ looping thing happening, not sure if that was some LFO modulation or what. Reminded me a touch of some of Burial’s low/mid frequency bits in some of his tunes.
The screen looks great! It’s so sleek and responsive… This video is short but I can already see how easy it will be to take a live input and quickly turn it into something else. I’m officially hyped.
I love this company but I’d personally need to see more since I don’t make ambient/soundtrack music and already have a lot of granular synths in software.
Hoping to see this sampler do something that is really unique in further demos. It sounds and looks great though. Love the ease of use of the mic recording. screen looks super crisp and the reverb sounds great.
I read that you can get all 4 stereo outs from it with a usb interface. Not entirely sure how that works. I wonder if it sends multitrack over USB. Also can you send 8 mono tracks out instead if you want?
Anyway, will be cool to hear more demos. I am pretty hooked on the t-1 going into the DAW experience right now so it’s tough to get into a hardware granular sampler, but I suspect this thing can do a lot more. These guys remind me a lot of Elektron in the way that they make high quality, innovative gear front ended by a powerful and unique sequencer.
I propose a ban on sampling kalimbas, rainsticks, and other desktop tchotchkes for the purpose of YouTube demos. It’s really overdone and eye-rolling every time I see it. If they are demonstrating sampling with a built-in mic, show me how it sounds for a guitar, piano, horn, whatever, just something with real dynamics.
