Torso Electronics S-4 (sculpting sampler)

That sounds like a fun vacation. I have the M8 and S-4 as well, but tend to use both completely as stand alone devices for whatever reasons. I think they are each so immediate that when I set either of them up, I’m already off and making stuff before I even get around to connecting them to each other or my other gear

Honestly i think it just needs a step modulator so that you can set values in steps (like on OT) that would be enough as sequencer imo.

A nice simple Euclidian would also fit the creative workflow- it isn’t like Torso don’t have a lot of experience with Euclidian sequencers!

yeah that would be nice to get a bit more deterministic.
do love the included looped random, especially decreasing step count to 3-7, maybe a little variation introduced depending on the parameter. So nice!

I’d like to have the offset in disc mode to be quantized to the grid and to insert silence at the beginning of the sample, now is only possible to add at the end.

Possible bug: when playing a project with some scenes chained, then switching to another project this starts playing from the last launched scene of the previous project. It should automatically switch to the first right?

You can kinda do that with the random modulation.

Yes but i would personally like to be able to jump to different parts of a longer sample which i determine, not randomly determined.

Have Torso ever given any indication that this could be implemented?

Do we have any confirmation of Elektron’s Outbox 8 working with the S4? I hope the fact that it appears on their promo video is an indication of it
I would much prefer that my MOTU MK5 could eventually take over the S4’s outputs, but it seems unlikely

There is a post about it in their Discord (feature request)

Yeah I thought about it when I saw the video. Does this mean we could get the 4 S4 tracks as single analog outs to be processed elsewhere?
I actually am perfectly fine just using S4 to process single tracks from my DT2/DN2/Syntakt but this could be a bonus feature.

You can really tell the S4 was a little overpriced. They must have sold so many units since the discount that they’ve had to upload a new introductory youtube video and there’s even a waiting list on Thomann to buy because the case is out of stock.

I think V2 update (I didn’t buy until this happened) and more recently the updated granular engine has probably also influenced a lot of new buyers…I am pleased about this, encourages new updates!

Same. I am just hoping for the Rust conversion soon with maybe some new devices and the “open” concept they have hinted at.

When did they mention that? Curious since I’m new at it

I checked the manual and I’m not seeing anything so I’m guessing no, but does S4 have threshold recording yet like on Elektrons? That’s the missing feature keeping me away after selling a while back.

unfortunately not

In one of their livestreams. Seemed to hint at some way for people to add to it.

Maybe send them a feature request? Sounds like a very good idea
