I can’t seem to copy the text, but a screenshot should suffice.
Revised Use Cases:
Four-Channel Stereo Sample Expansion for Digitakt OG
An add-on that provides an extra four stereo channels of synced samples. I could have bought the Digitakt MK2 for this price, but I love my DT1 and only occasionally missed the stereo option. Now I can resample in true stereo, add long pads or recordings without memory or loop lenght restrictions
Polyphonic 4-Layer Sample Player / Patch Designer
A hardware box to accompany my MIDI keyboard, capable of playing up to four layers per voice for rich, evolving patches and able to instant record and remangle the whole recording with saved tempo information for later recall
USB stick Hands-On Sample Library Player
A personal hardware stick that injects crackles, whoops, pops, wicked percussion or vocal stems into my setup on the fly.
Generative Ambient/Dub Groovebox**
A hyper-focused, controlled yet generative device for ambient or dub grooves—perfect for couch sessions or holidays. The subtle nuances you can dial in while wearing headphones are truly ear-pleasing.
Stereo Recorder/Player with Built-In FX**
A hands-on unit offering stereo recording and playback, complete with onboard effects, compression, and a master compressor—ideal for capturing live-instrument jam stems over a looping external setup.
Modular 4-Channel Loop/Overdub Tape Delay Emulator**
A modular-style box featuring four loop/overdub channels, send/return paths, synced modulation options, and extensive feedback-routing possibilities.
Eurorack/guitar/ monotimbral Synth Companion
A straightforward synth “bestie” for jamming: record a sequence on my Prophet, switch to another patch, and repeat. Same as for other instruments
Mixer “plugin”
Torso’s output is connected to dedicated channel on SSL B6 mixer
Torso’s input is connected to the BUS B output of that particular mixer.
Use case: jam with all my gear, by pressing the bus b/mute button of the needed audiochannel that audio is instantaneous rerouted thru S-4 for recording/ mangling/ layering or as filter/reverb/delay or compressor insert.
Wow, thanks for this great answer. You definitely covered several things I wasn’t even aware of.
That’s a great explanation. Thanks.
These are some great use case examples and have inspired me to try out different ways of using the S4.
It’s also why the often used comparison of ‘granular into reverb’ doesn’t really reflect what the S4 really is/can be. It’s why I find the endless comparisons to the Tempera quite tiring.
Thanks for sharing these thought starters!
I would like to know what’s your approach using granular. This machine invites to twist a lot the effects and abuse them, at least for me. It’s not a subtle thing. Any tips for granular mode?
Use granular with a moderate dry/wet ratio (30/40%) to spatialize without abusing of pitch shifting thing. It’s awful how everyone making YouTube videos does exactly the same thing and reduces this tool to that famous resonator, reverb. It’s definitely possible for me to avoid that signature sound.
Another interesting use is to take or record a sample and play with the sends to process it four different ways in a drastic manner.

Hey! I’m the developer of this device. I’m pleased to hear that there is similarities to the S4. I’ve never used one and, to be honest, I’ve stayed away from looking too much into it as I try to recover from GAS. ![]()
But very cool, and I hope it’s providing you some inspiration!
Suddenly after an hour my unit began to glitch. 2 disc samples I think and one bypass. Then it turned off automatically a reinitiated by itself.
Im not complaining. I’m showing you how everything goes…
I’m not without issues too…but then managed a live show no problem with it driving the show. Still so unrefined and inconsistent…but feeling ‘worth it’ for a proportion of us I suppose! Many superpowers but yes, lots of work for them to do still.
Totally agree. My feeling with the freeze and restart is that it is connected via midi. I use my polyend play to sequence some parts of S4 and it’s fantastic. …
Anyway, lot of work for Torso. But they’ve made a wonderful machine!!
I think the first thing they should fix is midi sync as it is the most important thing for me…
I think the first thing to fix is the clicks. In other settings this is such a wonderful device, but man, the clicks…
What’s up with that?
I don’t own it so I can’t tell you that this is the answer, but it’s closer to the answer than not.
They implemented his feedback into firmware V2.01 . After installing a factory reset will reformat the internal drive and they add the option in config menu to have this type of formatting for usb drive too.
I don’t notice a remarkable difference though. Odd is the fact that it’s depending on the days. Yesterday i booted and started with a new project and straight to poly, no clicks when triggering sample from the trigger button on device itself, but unusable with midi notes. Switching too another Material kept keeping clicks. Restarted and went straight to Disc and flawless.
There’s a known bug in the DISC machine when using a crossfade on a loop where it will click 4 times and then not click 4 times as playback moves over the loop crossfade.
I find TAPE to be riddled with clicks and other noise artifacts especially when you start manipulating the TAPE and doing anything slightly in-depth.
The POLY device also makes soft inconsistent noise during the crossfade portion.
Lots to fix for sure, but it has to be said, when it all clicks (no pun intended?) then I find myself making stuff out of samples which I don’t know if I could replicate elsewhere.
It’s a strange device for sure. You can bend, twist and shape samples like no other, but at the same time it feels very difficult to do simple sample manipulations like edit start and end points, nudge and shifting etc. It’s described as having a tape-like workflow but it’s nothing like real tape (or say like the OP-1’s interpretation of such a workflow).
Can’t wait for the Bad Gear episode ![]()
It’ll be seven hours long at this rate.
one question to you s4 users: i have it for some time now and somehow to my ears whatever i put through, modular, analog rytm and sampling stuff, i always feel like the effects sound very cold and not that great tbh…maybe it’s just my hearing idk, from the beginning i had that which is strange cause i love the general idea and workflow of the machine and how versatile it is. In comparison i never felt that way with elektron machines, neither machinedrum nor digitakt or rytm.
Are there people who feel the same? or some who had that and found a way to work with it?
