Torso Electronics S-4 (sculpting sampler)

Would you (or somebody else here) mind posting a Discord invite for the Torso server? I just got an S-4 and I’d love to get the 2.0 beta. Thanks in advance for any help!

So what’s the verdict on this one? Am I going to regret ordering one?

Only if you’re expecting something other than you ordered.

I say it comes down to it having, as is, what you want. Are there specific things you are hoping to do? Or do you just want something thats inspiring, feels good, etc? I think it’s inspiring, feels good, interesting filter and distortion/bitcrush, great visuals, functional flow.

Problems/issues/complaints are covered pretty thoroughly previously because thats easy to do (I like to discuss problems more than solutions all the time!).

I bet Torso were so excited about it that they released it before all features were there. I dont blame them. Id do the same and ride out the backlash:).

Maybe just wait 3 or 4 weeks, wait for the new firmware, with all the features, and then ask people opinion ( if you don’t want to regret…). Beta is promising, still need refinement. But I think they are in the right way. It is becoming a simple/complex machine.

I just want something to make some cool loops as track starters/foundations. The workflow looks fun and what I’ve heard sounds great.

It’s very fun, a great workflow and sounds very very good. I love mine.

You can take a fart sound and make it a beautiful ambient soundscape in 15 seconds. I love mine.

I have loved mine even before the beta and I still love mine after the beta. I don’t need many of the new features, I’m a basic bitch.

Exactly how I feel about it too :sunglasses:

That sentence of the fart it’s what’s best describe S4 :joy::joy::joy::joy:

I’m seriously considering the S4 right now because I think the sample mangling workflow could work for me… I think it does some things that I was looking for in the Octatrack but S4 seems to be much more visual and less convoluted.

Is it easy to sequence stuff with the S4 or will I want something like a Digitakt anyway?

It has no sequencer, so you will need an external sequencer…but the philosophie is more on the “tape” side… Personally i work more with asynchronous loops; but I’ve seen people doing nice things with synced samples loops

Very easy to sequence things. I did last week a live performance using it sequenced. I’m adding some images to the video because we capture all the experimental session. I’ll post here when ready. But for me, is absolutely fantastic paired with a sequencer in Poly mode. Very soon I’ll post the entire experiment here.

I do have the Digitone 2, so that one will do

are there any good workflow videos for S-4? I’m kinda having a hard time wrapping my head around this from jamming videos.

Edit: Sarah Belle Reid’s video seems to explain everything quite nicely.

For anyone with the new beta, they finally added sample preview?

Also, there’s an estimate release date for the white variant?

Thx

And ‘sentence of the fart’ is one of the best phrases I’ve heard in a while. I intend to use it randomly.
