I’m also a potential buyer and I’m wondering if it possible to effectively turn off pitch tracking by assigning a negative key mod value to the tune parameter? I’m mainly wondering about the grainer machine since it the tune knob there only spans 4 octs while the others span 10.
If this is possible it would be a neat trick for beefing up the grain density with several voices or even assigning key mod to sample slot all without the notes changing the pitch.
I’ve tried to follow the discourse in the other threads since 1.4 was released, but I haven’t seen this topic come up, so if someone would be willing to try this out I would be very thankful

I don’t really care about pedal and hammers noises, but will it respond to half pedaling?
entirely depends how much sampling you do for the multi player / sound font.
but i doubt it’ll be as good as a dedicated nord piano , though nord piano sounds good while being samples…
tonverk is 8 note poly (on a single track) , nord looks like 60-80 note poly, so if you want long release on notes , tonverk isnt likely to be very good at it depending on the type of music you want to play .
fx wise i’d guess you get get similar to nord (tremelo, wah etc)
whatever ‘half peddling’ is doing tech wise ?(adjusting amp / volume release ???) might be achievable with enough multi sample and setting up modulation targets . … youd have to understand what its actually doing on nord to replicate on tonverk.
My MIDI master keyboard is also my source of piano sounds… a Nord Electro 6D. And it’s connected to my Tonverk. So I can give you a very hands-on, real world answer.
The long answer is… almost certainly not. At least not within the confines of a multisample patch that the Tonverk could support. Nord piano patches involve a large number of velocity layers per note (I don’t know how many but I’m guessing at least 8) and seem to be as close to being sampled at a per-note level as to be indistinguishable from an actual piano. Then there’s the fact that a held note will ring out for many seconds (especially low notes) so we are looking at large sample sizes per velocity layer and per note. Add in sympathetic resonance samples when the sustain pedal is used for good measure.
The short answer is, in a busy mix, with around 5-6 velocity layers, sampling every 2-3 notes and adding fade outs to longer held samples to keep down sample sizes… probably OK. Should sound right, depending on context. But it won’t feel like a Nord piano patch when playing it because you won’t have the same responsiveness and tonal nuances. And even that stripped back version would use a fair chunk of the Tonverk’s resources including a slooooooow loading time.
The stock card is pretty good. Elektron unfortunately chose to limit Tonverk to UHS-1 speeds, so it’s already close to the cap. Minor performance gains are possible.
I’m trying to get more use out of bus tracks as typically atm its really just used for extra effects and compression.
It’s pretty fun setting up a 2nd buss with an effect like degrader and being able to switch back and forth.
I do kind of wish it worked differently like it would be cool if by muting a bus it would mute whatever effects are on the buss and just play the track audio. I know you can do that in a way with trigs but you don’t always want to put trigs down for various reasons.
you can parameter lock the buss send on the instrument track… so you could use fill / _Fill condition type … setup trigs to turn it on and off (main out / buss send ) by pressing fill / _fill button .
not entirely what you want, but would have similar end effect of the audio no longer sounding like it is effected by the buss.
or on the buss track use wet/dry locks… but you didnt want any on those tracks.
How do you transpose them? The manual doesn’t say anything about this, as far as I can see. When on a sub-track, if you try to transpose (“func” + “+”) you just get a message saying “transpose SUBT” but nothing seems to happen whatever you press. The normal means of transposition (on a non-sub-tracks track), i.e. pressing the chromatic keys to choose 1-12, does nothing.
How do you change the pitch of the a given step on a sub-track? The trig > trig box is not available for sub-tracks. Yes you can do src > tune, but there must be a better way of changing the pitch for a given step?
I have added thin strips of green painters tape, to mark the Buss, Send, and Mix tracks.
I place one 1/8th inch strip above the Buss tracks, and another below the Send tracks, and one more small piece above the Mix trig.
It helps me see them at a glance.

Iam yet not getting the difference of our beloved func+no to get back to a saved state and the new memorize recall function of the TV. I mean other than that that recall only works if before memorize was used. Any suggestions?
And can somebody explain me the difference and sense of an „instrument“ and a „preset“?
Hi everyone, I have a couple of questions for Tonverk owners.
First: can you actually rename MIDI CC parameters and save the whole setup for quick recall? Page 84 of the OS 1.0.1 manual says you can name the parameter controlled by each CC knob, but I’ve seen some mixed reports about whether this really works in practice. I’d really appreciate hearing from someone who has actually tried it. What I’d like to do is basically create MIDI instrument presets: assign the CCs for a synth, rename them Cutoff, Resonance, etc., save everything, and recall the setup whenever I want to sequence that synth. Is that possible right now?
Also, can the arp parameters be modulated by LFOs, a bit like on the Octatrack?
I’m seriously considering selling quite a bit of my gear if I get along well with the Tonverk. I’ve been following its development pretty closely over the last year and, in its current state, it really looks like it could suit the way I work very well.
One thing I’d still love to see — and this applies to pretty much every Elektron box I own — is some further development on the sequencer side. Things like probability over p-locks, accumulators and a few more advanced sequencing features would be really interesting. That said, I already think there’s a lot of potential there. The fact that the arp itself is p-lockable seems like it could open up some really fun possibilities for experimentation.
I’m also very curious about the Randomize feature. It feels like something that could become even more powerful if Elektron expanded it a bit — for example by adding min/max randomization ranges, or extending randomization to more sequencer parameters. Just throwing a few ideas out there for discussion.
And one last question: is anyone here using the Tonverk together with an MPC Live III? I’d be really curious to hear how you’re integrating the two, and which one you use as the main sequencer or clock.
Correct… unfortunately. I don’t know why MIDI CC naming hasn’t been brought over to the Tonverk yet. It seems like a real oversight. Hopefully it’ll be fixed one day.
My current work flow is runninng DN2 audio into TV through a track adding fx and getting a nice sequence going. Once I have it sounding how I want I’ll multi sample it then as if by some form of black magic I swap the midi track out for my multi sampled patch and it just sounds pretty much exactly the same.
Then I repeate the process or disconnect my DN2 and pop it back on the shelf. Feels almost like a DAW at times.
Yes, it seems like on my other Elektron boxes, if you turned it on, selected a performance,
Then made changes, you could press FUN NO, to relode the original settings, without having to SAVE them first.
With Tonverk it no longer works that way. You have to save first, before you start tweeking, and if you want to return without saving first, you have to reload the project.
I like the way it works on my older Elektron Boxes.
