Tonverk: User Thread

Hey ya. I’m trying to control the Super 6 from the Tonverk via USB MIDI, but the S6 is unresponsive.

I tried sending MIDI through the same cable from my MacBook to the S6, and that works fine, so the settings on the S6 should be correct. I also tried sending MIDI from the TV to Ableton Live to control Operator, and that works too. I’ve also tried sending MIDI from the TV to Live and then to the S6 through the External Instrument device, and that works as well.

However, when I try to send MIDI directly from the TV to the S6 via USB, it doesn’t work. What am I missing here? Everything seems to work fine with a basic MIDI cable.

I have a MIDI machine on Track 1 and have set the channel to 1 on the Source page. Audio is routed through the A–B inputs and is audible when I press the keys on the synth, so the audio routing is correct.

On the Port Config page, Output is set to MIDI + USB.

Tonverk and super 6 do not have usb host, the type of midi connection you are trying to make is not possible, either you connect the super 6 to the pc or you use a midi cable to connect it to the tv

That doesn’t help me at all unfortunately. Its plenty loud over headphones or ABCD outputs. Its just USB that doesn’t match the rest of the device.

damn, I haven’t yet used OB so I can’t comment on ops. what I could suggest is, record TV single track out via AB outs or USB (I would prefer AB out analog) in USB AUDIO/MIDI mode, record same track via OB mode. compare level difference. increase OB Samp to match USB Samp, compare sound. if there is no difference then just amp the OB channels with DAW gain.

going a bit deeper I have no idea how TV outs over OB in terms of bit rate.
(im sure this is clearly mentioned on documentation, just haven’t got to it yet)

cause if we at 32 bit on OB and daw is capable on recording 32 bit then afaik you could increase level to a lot more than one would expect.

Thanks for clearing that up for me! Makes more sense now.

USB Audio/Midi mode is completely non functional for me on windows PC. No audio at all possible in that mode. I guess they didn’t have any windows users in the testing of the latest update.

I really wish undo worked like a standard undo…
I just lost my subtrack arrangement, and I don’t even know how, lol!

MPC has a great implementation of undo, come on Elektron, catch up!

Supertrack has to be super at some point. A Control All track !
Patience…

A midi host device like the CME H2Midi Pro will do the trick.

One quick question.
Does a faster SD card has any impact in loading projects / presets?
The initial loading time of projects/preset list is the only thing that’s annoying me a little about the tonverk .
When everything is loaded it’s pretty quick

Me too….it is not so optimal to wait so long

Apparently…

What’s the point of e.g. filter/amp settings on supertracks? As far as I can see they don’t do anything, as the sub-tracks obviously have their own equivalent settings.

When I select the supertrack and try to open SRC/FLTR/AMP pages, it says “select subtrack to edit”.

Greetings, potential Tonverk purchaser here. It’s really growing on me!

I had assumed as it’s sample based that it featured record-trigs like the OctaTrack but alas, according to the manual, it does not. Fair enough!

How effective are owners finding the Tonverk for sampling synced external gear given you have to rely on threshold and recording length to try to capture an easily looped sample?

Hello , you can capture perfect loops with the rec start option ( meaning recording start exactly when the sequencer starts )and desired sequencer lenght…but due to lack of timestrech as of today you then can’t change the tempo of your pattern unless you resample or try different shenanigans with the cronopitch effect or with the granular machine.

Ah cool. It has rec on start too? Nice. I hope time stretching arrives on the TV but it’s not currently part of my workflow enough to mind its absence for now.

yes ,iirc it was not a launch feature but added very quickly

I’m also a potential buyer and I’m wondering if it possible to effectively turn off pitch tracking by assigning a negative key mod value to the tune parameter? I’m mainly wondering about the grainer machine since it the tune knob there only spans 4 octs while the others span 10.

If this is possible it would be a neat trick for beefing up the grain density with several voices or even assigning key mod to sample slot all without the notes changing the pitch.

I’ve tried to follow the discourse in the other threads since 1.4 was released, but I haven’t seen this topic come up, so if someone would be willing to try this out I would be very thankful

On all machines KT to -60 results in no KF
Bit weird that even grainer needs -60, but that conversation is probably for some other time.

EDIT: This information in not entirely correct as of 1.4.0
