I vaguely remember @Ess saying something about being hard at work on something new?
Seems to me Ess would fit right into this Max / Elektron puzzle that is forming

it looks like a 16 track 64 voice polyphonic insta-rompler with basic sound engines for fm, karplus strong, VA, kicks, snares etc. sounds easy for elektron. and great.
I’m having real trouble taking a video seriously that says “good design is thorough down to the last detail” when half of the copy in the video is obscured by their logo watermark.
Also having trouble with a video that says “good design is environmentally friendly” and in the very next point shows a bunch of cathode ray tubes.
I also thought it was a photo of a tiny goth leprechaun until I zoomed in.
Gotta disagree there, I think the digi boxes are sexy as fuck and I don’t think I’m alone.
But I’ll give you that the MK1s aren’t especially eye catching and maybe even kind of boring.
Coming in Oct! On the 8th! you know what I’m thinking?
Digitone 2 confirmed.
Since “Motion Layer” is most likely some form of PARAMETER SLIDES, I’ve decided to shift my fight to complaining about how PARAMETER SLIDES aren’t implemented with the midi sequencer controlling other things so that P-locked CC values can transition smoothly if desired.
The Elektron midi sequencer is highly touted and they are proud of it. This feature actually seems really basic to me imo.
if the leaks are anything close to reality I’m thinking a modern day something like this. which I’d be stoked af for
Yes, that may be a new trend or something like that. I don’t have a Syntakt, so I didn’t realize that it also had that difference. The AH+FX only has the “E” logo, but it’s not an instrument and that’s why I had the theory that it was an instrument thing. I’m out of theories at this point and I think I’ll just be content to just wait and see.
DJ please, pick up your phone
I’m on the request line…
Still a better leak than the TE medieval sampler. I still don’t know what they were thinking.
Is there some concern about midi 1.0 bandwidth with this or no? Bottlenecking?
The Squarp Hapax has midi 1.0.
I totally agree, lack of slides on CCs is one of the major bummers about the octatrack for me. I assumed there was some reason for the lack of it
Wishing for exactly these features with an Elektron sequencer ever since
Add in some FM, VA and polyphony and this will be a huge playground for sound design
Obviously depends on a ton of factors. But let’s say it releases February 2025, and the device ticks a lot of the boxes for things I’d like a device to do for me… $1600 wouldn’t be crazy. The closer it got to $2k the more I’d be squirming. Over $2k I don’t think I could make myself spend unless the thing is a miracle. That’s creeping toward lifelong / grail instrument prices for someone like me. I’m just a little amateur music making guy
Not more than DX7, 100, 27 which became beautiful in my eyes with simultaneous perception of sound and character.
If the color scheme holds up to the expectations (incl 8bit aliased FM), I like it.
And I like the A4 mki design elements which is raising my expectations.
@Elektron I am available for private beta testing. Jean Michel mentioned considering this approach (in general, more between the spoken lines) at superbooth 24 when we were talking about the initial DTII situation.
Crazy thing is I hadn’t even considered mixing and recording to that SD card. Interesting…
Now I got an idea how they could position it without eating into DT2 or octatrack:
Focus on multisampled stuff.
Use the ins to make multisampled drum kits or synths, make rules when to play which samples (velocity, round robin, …) to add a more organic feel to samples lite romplers and sample libraries do sometimes. Then DT2 keeps the immediate an directness as well as the price, while OT has more ins and plays the performance mixer part better.
I admit I was a bit salty yesterday with my comments and I apologised if anyone from Elektron was offended in any way. I struggle to contain negative feedback when I feel too strongly about the things I love and Design + Elektron are certainly some of them.
I went ahead and played for few hours to see how can I redesign this box to account for some of the things I was trying to say.
Main things of note to this exploration are:
Now of course this is just a quick exploration and from this point I’d continue to make more iterations, test with users etc. until I come up with something that’s fun to play with and also looks and feels great.
But already this is a solid baseline to work with and in my opinion a much more striking design than the prototype I’ve seen.
Let’s have a better day with more positive discussions. I honestly didn’t sleep well yesterday as I don’t want to fight and bring negativity anywhere.
