Although I wasn’t sure about slices initially, this is a fair point. Mainly because from the experience so far, TV can be a central hub in a setup, but it’s fairly feature complete as a standalone. So I’m of the view now that not having it on a standalone sampler doesn’t make sense.
Almost every sub 1k sampler that I can think of has it, from Circuit Rhythm to Digitakt II. The only other device I’ve heard where there’s this same convo happening is OP-XY which is even more expensive, and also needs workarounds for slicing. Fortunately on Elektron’s sequencer there are workarounds and similar effects. And I guess Digitakt didn’t have it for half a decade or so (though that’s not an excuse since the tech exists.)
So yeah. Slices make sense. That and granular might be the top feature requests from what I’ve seen here. Given that it looks like granular is there, it’s over to Elektron to see whether they put slices in.
Feature Request: Better way of seeing internal levels
Problem Statement: With so many tracks and busses, its easy to start clipping due to deley feedbacks or filters but I cannot find a way to visually see which track us causing the issue
Proposed Solution 1: When you focus select the Mix track or a Bus track, any clipping audio will be indicated by the corresponding Track key being set to solid red color
Proposed Solution 2: When you focus select the Mix or a Bus Track, the Amp Page will display only the current tracks routed to the Track. Any audio clipping will be indicated on the corresponding track on the screen, next to the current level
This idea already exists in Tonverk, sorta. Just … not currently in the UI. Subtrack presets have round robin (forward and random) amd have velocity layers. Putting an LFO on velocity or just manually tweaking the value would kinda give you this. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s close and similar.
But, you have to currently set that up externally in the Subtrack preset’s text file.
A couple sessions with the TV so far and am absolutely loving it. My OG DT has been such a trusty companion these last seven years, and has brought me great joy, but I just boxed it up. I will find a good home for it, someone just getting into this kind of stuff I hope…the TV just does so much already and fits my workflow.
I’d love for a cleaner saturation effect, at least for the bus track. I don’t mind the dirt the current ones bring to the table, but some clean boost would be fantastic.
THIS. Randomize velocity is excellent for humanizing drums but right now it’s kind of useless until you can limit the range.
In general all the sequencer transform options need some parameter entry and I’d like to see a pingpong option.
One other bummer is that the transform appears to do a one-time reorg/change of the sequence rather than govern the decision to go from step N to step N+1 vs. some other step or use the nominal velocity vs. the transform velocity. This is nonetheless a super welcome feature to the elektron sequencer and I’ll use it and love it but I would have MUCH preferred the implementation to be “reverse playback” instead of “rearrange the triggers in reverse” and “random playback” instead of “rearrange the triggers at random” because the implication right now is that there’s no path to a truly evolving generative sequence control with stochastic step jumps that are evaluated every time (like the stochastic modes in oxi one and sq64). Having the perform mode let you quickly snap out of the transformation is a decent patch for not having this but if you wanted it to really evolve you’ll be hitting perform enable ->randomize triggers-> perform disable → repeat a lot unless I’ve misunderstood the randomize triggers implementation and it actually does rearrange on every pass.
I would also like to see a “randomize octave” sequence transform (with an octave range) and to be able to combine this and randomize trigger transforms.
The Oxi One random sequencer control lets you set velocity variation with limits, octave variation with limits, etc. and is very intuitive. I’d like my Tonverk to let me do similar things, ultimately.
This are all great suggestions, I like a lot the min/max values concept when using randomizing functions/midiFXs on the Hapax.
I’ve sent a feature request to Elektron to be able to at least have the transform function working on a per page basis, in that case (and with hopefully page loop) you can alter values and refine them on the 16 trigs you have immediate access to, and then move on to the next 16.
Having all the other parameters/logic you descrive would be a really step ahead tho!
As far as I understand it rearrange trigs every time you hit the relevant function in the transform menu
you have to stop the sequencer for LFO phase position to update. jacking with LFO phase while it’s running is . also a second LFO assigned to start phase is not making it move either during playback so maybe that’s a bug rn. every time you stop and restart it’s in a different spot but doesn’t move while sequencer running
plock track/bus level and mute state
it looks like amp is a LFO destination for track but you can’t plock track level, track has the volume parameter. busses don’t have the volume parameter and you can’t plock level
Two 'simple ones to enhance QoL of existing features:
1. [PRESET] browser button to offer more than ‘All’ ‘Drums’ and ‘Keys’
I’d prefer a grid of user definable tags (user writeable txt file list on the SD card) I can dial across and that I can assign when saving a preset of a particular machine/instrument.
And maybe even an initial screen (or multi tap the [PRESET] button to select the machine type, so I thereafter just get, for example, multisample instruments (etc)
EDIT - there seems to be tag assignment available in the Preset [MANAGE] menu, but not sure what it achieves anywhere else…
…
2. In [CHORD] introduce a new GUIDE type called EVERY (besides off/light/snap and filter) that plays a different note for every [TRIG] key so as to provide 13 different notes available to noodle over without needing to use the +/- octave control.
Add an Insert FX type: “External FX S/S (Stereo out/Stereo in) w/Midi”
Expects you are using Out C/D and In A/B as an FX loop; and provides a custom plockable FX UI to automate an external FX box via midi CC and sends clock
Enable saving as a named template with nameable controller knobs on the TV UI, eg for Microcosm (or whatever)
Also provide for configuration of IO, eg Stereo Out/Mono In, gain and other permutations
Add a new Sample-based Synth Machine - ‘JVerk 1080’/‘Tonispherk’ - up to 4 samples as oscillators, enabling rich layered sounds, splits, stacks, and advanced timbral combinations
consists of up to four “Tones,” … or is it “Tons” (subtrack 1-4 trig selectable, including the samples for each of the 4 oscillators)
each Ton featuring a filter (resonant multi-mode), amplifier section, envelope generators for pitch, filter, and amp, and dual assignable LFOs per tone.
signal path for these Tons is determined by one of ten selectable “Structures,” which set up routing for filters, ring modulation, booster (distortion), and modulation paths
Beyond basic subtractive synthesis, Structures set on trigs 5-8 allow advanced configurations such as FM (Frequency Cross Modulation), ring modulation, and booster for distortion
