Deleted my post because until right now, I hadn’t seen the MAX setting (you turn the encoder to the left instead of right, lol) instead of set length record, ha.
I clearly have more twiddling to do…
Edit: Twiddling done - very satisfied, time to get my mics out…
I don’t get the feeling it’s going to be changed tbh and it’s probably the thing that confounds me. I get the absence of the kind of slicing we see on OT and DT but I don’t get not being able to re pitch single samples (properly) on a machine designed and marketed specifically for melody.
I’ve been using it pretty much standalone at the moment and have not dug into MIDI, will take a look, once I find a moment.
The lack of small but basic refinements seems a common theme for Elektron, with some functionality across the instruments not being standard. This is a pity, they should perhaps take the opportunity with the Digi and Tonverk instruments to look again which common features and UI would benefit a user who is working with multiple Elektron instruments, then the instrument specific specialisations, such as FM or sampling would simply sit on top. These specialisations could be differentiated by price, so that having time stretching or slicing on Tonverk, as examples, would not eat into the market for Digitakt. A user should have the identical sample manipulation and workflow on Tonverk that they would find on DTII but have access to the broader features of Tonverk, as a result of the higher price point. From the feature requests on this forum, I think many would appreciate this approach… downside, this forum might get quieter, as people spend more time making music
It’s only a small issue, I hope it can be fixed. If I put a 4 to the floor kick pattern on a subtrack then plock each kick to have an individual pitch via the SRC menu, then that’s possible. As it was with the single cycle I was using. You just have no indication of the exact number of semitones the pitch is being set to, as it is not displayed for some reason, just the [-1…0…1] graphic. You could use your ear or an external tuner, no problem. I think it’s simply a UI bug… One thing you cannot do is use the keyboard to set the pitch, as this is responsible for the subtrack channel selection… That doesn’t work.
Could you put the kick on its own track and use the keyboard? Prob be useful as a trigger source for side chaining too. This is how I’ve been doing it.
No, once you have a Subtrack Machine on a track, then the keyboard defaults to selecting the 8 individual sequences/tones within the Subtrack. Pitch adjustments are only possible with plocking a TRIG and adjusting its tuning via the SRC menu.
Yeah I know, I mean resample the kick (or sometimes you can find them in the single samples list if its from the original sample library) and put it on track one on its own in a single player. Then you have semitones such as it is on Tonverk when working with a non multisampled source. It passes if you’re only going up or down a few semitones.
Ive been doing it a matter of course since early on. You almost never would want the same FX applied to a kick as a hi hat etc. I usually at least split kick, snare and metallic percussion across 3 tracks. I find it minimises the issue of shared fx on subtracks to an acceptable degree. You can compress your snare, use the kick to duck a bassline via a shape machine. Makes a big difference.
Have an option to mute audio coming into a midi track from an external synth. As it currently is, if an exteral synth is playing a sequence from it’s own built in sequencer, and you mute whatever track is sending midi to it , if audio is routed from the synth to that midi track it only mutes outgoing midi notes but not incoming audio. The only way to mute is to lower track volume. Is there no way to also mute incoming audio other than turning down track volume?
Second of all audio routed from the audio inputs into one of the 8 tracks bypasses the filter and amp stages it seems? Surprised this happens, I don’t see why it can’t pass through the filter and amp stages of the track. It would save an FX slot for when one needs to insert a lowpass filter
Different filter slopes and models on the filter page like in digitone 2.
Another helpful thing would be to route buses to one another
Allow setting a recording length of 256 steps please. And along with that allow a maximum note length of 256 on the trig page somehow (if anyone has a workaround i would appreciate hearing about it)
Ability to create stereo sample duplicates with swapped channels in the sample browser
Bus width p-locking does not fit my workflow
This capability would reduce time spent, since my present approach uses a utility pattern to route a sample through a bus with reversed width, record it, and then name and store the outcome.
Ok - back to being unsatisfied:
The feature I need is to be able to punch out on MAX recorder setting so that I can cleanly slice using multiples later (30/60/90/120). All it needs is an option to have it end the clip on the grid when I press stop recording, that way I get a MAX length clip AND perfect timing.
So, yeah, unless I’m missing something, we need to have a scheduled/bar-based punch-out option when using the MAX recording setting to keep things on the grid.
