There’s very little I grouse about with Elektron in terms of updates, new hardware, etc. But you made me realize that I would be really bummed if they left the trig modifiers in their current state on Syntakt, only to release a Syntakt 2 where they addressed / fixed them! This has been a glaringly underdeveloped feature since day 1…
NO, extra analog circuits needed, totally impossible. A Compressor is a really glaring omission, as is a Euclydian Sequencer
someone on here mentioned that they suspected the trig modifiers were placed there simply bc elektron didn’t know what to do with the rest of the trig numbers that didn’t contain tracks lol
can’t help but at least somewhat suspect this may actually be the case as well
there’s no dedicated retrig button on the other digis, so I’m happy to have that on Syntakt with the modifiers. I only need one though, not 4. Would love to use the others as “neighbors” to add lfos to specified tracks, if that were a possibility.
Not me. Personally I couldn’t care less if it gets no more updates. Everything can be improved I guess, but the Syntakt is an absolute fucking powerhouse as it is. Imo the most fun Elektron synth to date.
And the latest OS is like two weeks old, maybe it’s a bit early to write it off?
Selling the ST1 because there are unsubstantiated speculations of an mk2 is absolute madness in my opinion, but to each their own I guess. I’d rather spend my time on the magnificent little box that is the ST1
Peace.
That sounds like fun any performance feature(s) (scenes?) on those buttons would be great, and help to make the Syntakt more unique among the other digi boxes.
hold up - DNII has PCM sounds onboard?
yeah. At the FM Drum Machine. A bunch of transients are actualy PCMs
Fascinating. If STII indeed came with a PCM machine, that’d warrant a revisit… But then there’d be an awful lot of overlap with a Rytm…
GAS is an emotional, not logical phenomena. It’s all desire and fantasy as you can observe.
I agree that with OS 1.30B and the announcement on the bugs thread that they’ve fixed every bug they could replicate, I suspect it and RYTM are considered “feature complete” at this point. I agree with Nils above that it absolutely does what it says on the tin.
I’d be almost certain the team’s development attention is now elsewhere for the time being.
For any ST2 plans, I’d speculate the ceiling for this form factor might be thermal. DT2 runs significantly hotter than the DT1 did (it’s warm to the touch), and I imagine significantly increasing the number of analog components on top of new DSP is not in the cards. But I guess we’ll see!
Absolutely. Still total madness though, because the ST2 doesn’t yet exist, and selling the ST1 would in effect mean having no ST at all When GAS’ing for things that don’t exist leads people to sell wonderful things that DO exist, I can’t help but think people are mad! But I’m completely absorbed by my love for the ST, and it’s totally ok to disagree with me.
Syntakt may be the weird stepchild but it has the updated simplified faceplate already, so maybe it can stay as-is in the line without looking off… Maybe it just stays this way, and one day down the line we see a new “MD” or other machines-based drum machine with some added analog voices to replace the ST. ST is such a specific concept and also kind of arbitrary feeling, I wonder if it’s considered for Mk2. It’s really the only Elektron I use regularly, I’m not knocking it
Well, my reasoning for instance being, that DNII does everything better than the ST. It does better drums imo and has a lot of features that were requested here.
I dont really care about it having analog sounds, the digital ones are close enough. Besides, i have fully analog synths anyway. Just need a centerpiece to controll them.
The issue for some people like myself is, owning several Elektrons already, the ST being a mashup of previous boxes, has a lot of redundancy onboard. Its saving grace is the small digi form factor and its rather capable MIDI sequencing features, on all other fronts, for someone who already has AK/Rytm/model:cycles/Heat, its not completely irreplaceable.
Indeed, if ST is someone’s only Elektron box, there isnt much point agonizing about a possible STII all that much.
Last night, I revisited my trusty old Rytm MKI. Upgraded to the latest OS, patched a bunch of indiouts to my mixer, used the RS/CP output for triggering my DFAM… and it felt pretty good. For me personally, it reminded how Syntakt is still a “should-it-stay-or-should-it-go” kind of a piece. YMMV
for me Syntakt does everything(what I need) better than the DNII . It does better analog drums and has analog sounds.
I dont really care about the digital ones.Besides, i have so many VST synths anyway. Just need a completely analog groovebox with a small number of digital tracks.
The main request is to expand midi tracks by 13-16 channels
I have the DT2 and the ST, and I would never sell any of them. The ST really feels like a mix between the models, the digis, and some parts of the AR and A4. I can make techno sounds super easily with it, and the FX Block adds so much color. Even after playing with the DT2, I don’t do the same sounds with the ST because the features and sound engines are just different.
I also tried the AR and A4 at a friend’s place, and honestly, I prefer my ST instead of having both. Recently, I was having so much fun making some big punchy sounds on it with my little white spider walking on the screen.
If they add two or three more digital sound engines, a way to link two patterns to make a 128-step sequence, Perform Kit mode, and a way to link Chord Synth with KB Scale to only play the right chords in the right scale, for me, the machine will be perfect. The compressor is just a detail. Even without it, there’s already a sidechain that works well, and with Overbridge, you have your DAW’s compressors. Sometimes, I don’t even use the FX Block envelope, and it still sounds great together. But I can understand that for people who are totally dawless, it could be an interesting feature.
What sidechain is that? You mean amp config on the FX track?
Yes, this feature
I just noticed there was a small firmware update on Jan 30th, 1.30B, only bug fixes.
The fact that we are still in 1.xx even after the last big update keep my hopes alive of having a 2.0 firmware with a sidechain compressor and maybe a chorus.
