if this has been covered elsewhere sorry - but will an allen heath xzone 3 channel dj mixer be any good for mixing a few elektorn boxes togther for live use?
Sure thing, any Xone mixer is a decent mixer. The smaller models lack balanced jack inputs, but that’s no problem for live, assuming you have a relatively short cable run. Just get some TS jack to RCA cables and plug 'em in.
But which mixer do you have in mind that is 3 channels? I’m only aware of 4 (Xone 43) and 2 (+2) (Xone 23) mixers in their line up.

I have the xone 43 and i love it.
The FX-send is really nice.
I also use the Cue out for FX sometimes and the return to the “extra” channel.
I combine it with a patchbay. Works like a charm.

I have this question too.
Current setup:
OG DT + DN hooked into a Yamaha MG06 on 3/4 and 5/6 stereo line inputs.
Piano + organ submix into an RC-505MKII on instrument 1 and 2, with the main output of the 505 going to the remaining channels on the MG06 (L & R combi’s).
The MG06 main output goes to the PA’s.
Trying to get it setup so I can monitor one or the other grooveboxes in the headphones (without sending that individual signal to the PA’s), while the other groovebox continues to send to the PA’s.
No matter how I cable and route, I can’t isolate one or the other or both grooveboxes in the headphones, while selectively sending one or the other or both to the PA’s.
I think I need a proper DJ mixer but I don’t want to spend a gazillion dollars.
Can I do this with a 1010 Bluebox? I’d also like to record with a minimum of fuss.

edit: just temporarily fixed the problem by connecting the headphones directly to the Digitone. This works for todays practice session(s) but I still need a more flexible and permanent solution. Not about to be plugging and unplugging headphones between boxes.
You are expecting av bit to much from that little mixer.
If you get a bit bigger one, you could do that easily

This is the first time I’ve jammed while going back and forth between the 2 boxes.
Funny thing, I sold that EXACT SAME F’ing MIXER on ebay last May,
after having barely used it (the bigger footprint put me off).
That’s it, I’m never selling anything again.
(after I repurchase that Mackie mixer)

I use this mixer for more elaborate DJ gigs (with up to 4 mic inputs for MCs etc). Its a nice compact workhorse

Yes, I am probably going to get the 12 channel version as a utility mixer to do some chores in my rather convoluted studio setup. I haven’t found other mixer with so many features, namely 5/6 independent outputs, in such affordable compact format.
My only problem with my 802 is the panning is off-centered, it was my first mixer and took me a while to notice the left/right levels being some 3dB off, had to manually pan the channels until both sides had the same level 
Anyone else experienced that with it?

yes, unfortunatly thats a known problem with the vlz4 mackies. not only the 802. i didnt expect that either and was looking for problems up the chain first.

Yeah that s really a shame. I ve got an 802vlz3 that has none of these problems and has served me very well for many many years.

Same as @Zum. My 802 has the pan problem, and I hear it’s on pretty much all of them.
I rarely pan in the mixer so I’m not too bothered. I can just offset the pan on each track. But it’s baffling why they still have this problem after so many years.
Thanks for the heads up on pan. I got one coming in a few days. Ill keep switching the headphone jack between the DT and DN for the next few days. It’s not a huge deal and there’s no disturbance in the PA’s when I do it, but DAMN, being able to change projects on one box or the other and get all cued up for a drop is an enormous grin for me.
Looking forward to the Mackie mixer.

Sorry for digging the Elara.4 out again, but have been walking around thinking about it for the past few months. Was hoping you or someone else might be able to shed some light on one of my thoughts.
When the Master Insert is engaged, putting say an external Limiter over the Main output:
- Does the Insert get applied before Record Out? I understand it is pre-fader on the main, and that the Record Out is pre-fader, but I didn’t find the order of Rec and Insert.
- Can I still use the Aux Out for effects? Say I put a DTII, ST and DGII on tracks 1, 2 and 3 respectively, can I use Aux Out to send each channel to a delay pedal and route that back to track 4 - despite the Master Insert being engaged? I don’t see why not, but wanted to confirm with actual use experience.
Edit: found the answer to my first question in the manual
The Record output is taken post Insert and will be affected by the Isolator EQ but not by the Master Level control.

Yeah, for sure. The aux send is a separate out and doesn’t affect the master insert in any way. The master insert is simply a loop just before the rec/main level and out. So everything you do will be recorded basically. And everything will be going through the master insert effect chain.

I have xone:32 as a DJ mixer which is great as a live mixer too if you need to use it this way, and the filters are amazing !

thanks - i have never dj’d so not sure i could get my head around it - but i would need at least 6 inputs for a live set (stereo out from a4 and m4 plus mono out from mc202 and tr606) so i thought xzone32 had six inputs
