The Machinedrum Chronicles 016 - Create a drum kit with sample chain technique
Video
Video description
From the journey of the exploration of the Elektron Machinedrum.
Overview:
Segment 1 (very short, 17s): example result drum kit from the process
Segment 2 (about 15 minutes): explain concept, setup, single steps, minimal example for POC
Segment 3 (about 15 minutes): demonstrate in real time whole rest of process to finish a whole 8-instrument drum kit with this technique
Segment 4 (very short, 17s): example result drum kit from the process
The following subjects are discussed, most of them also demonstrated:
- sample chains (concept)
- setup donor machine for sending audio sequence
- setup MD as receiving sampling machine of the audio sequence
- setup MD RAM record and RAM playback machines
- save MD recorded sample (sample chain) to ROM slot
- MD: copy sounds from one track to another
- MD set start and stop points for sample playback
- tweak individual sounds
No script, 1 take for each segment, minimal editing (cutting out few interruptions), almost no preparation (means: time elapsed in video is time needed in real time for the task)
Addendum
- seems like it would be important to apply this to sample slots 25 to 48 because 1 to 24 are handled differently by MD
- will check that later
