The improvised techno thread

The Perkons is great as everyone mostly agrees. I picked up the minibrute 2s yesterday. I love it so far. It’s bigger than I expected but it’s very nice to use, big and chunky and feels well made. The sequencer is perfect for improvising, very hands on with a few nice little tricks like the loop function. Pass it through a few FX, loop it up, techno party. I now need to work on my patching skills so that I can quickly dial in sounds, but as there are no presets or hidden menus it’s pretty easy to figure out where you are. The H9 sounds fantastic but I might swap it out for a different delay, one with more hands on controls.

Cheap Capistan mayhaps

Happy Friday folks…on a more ambient/atmospheric tip this week. Using the new iPad app ‘Fluss’ from Brambos & Hainbach for some granular paddy type atmospheric sounds, and picked up a MAM MB33 for a wee bit of acid.

WARNING Slightly too loud claps at 7m 50s…not for too long though

My friend has been working hard to make a track everyday for his advent calendar (techno instead of chocolates) with a lot of talented Parisian heads; and last Sunday I met him at his beautiful studio to create the track of the day. Since we were both short on time, we decided to to it “against the clock” style, with just one hour to hopefully make something decent, limiting ourselves to just his 909 and my OB6, two beautiful instruments tailor-made for techno.

get your french dictionary out or trust the power of the youtube translation for the full un-edited 4K glory of the video :

Have you considered a Toraiz Squid? It’s a very nice blend between
“Poly” centric / Musical / Tonal

and

“Mono” centric / Random / Improvisational / Rhythm-oriented

I had an inkling the T1 was tailor made for techno.

especially for drums. if your drum machine supports mote length and velocity this thing is killer. adds a groove that you can’t program easily with p-locks.

Not posted here for a while. Here’s relentless dubby one which glitches out a fair bit too. It was spawned from a Jamuary idea, so Keep on Keeping on folks:

I bet there are many of its features you can already reproduce with the OT.

Ooohyea, these glitches are tasty – nice groove in the dubby chords too!
How are you improvising the glitches?

2 kinds of glitches, cos one isn’t enough
The glitches around 1m 20s & 6m 25s are from Sector iPad app, I fed it a time stretched DFAM sequence. The other glitches at 3mins is just the scatter effect from TR8s, but changing the depth setting to get different resolutions.

Thanks!

Wow, you officially ended the Christmas gap on this thread

Pretty hard to believe we all did stay away from our toys for such a long time - 14 days between your post and the previous one. I was a bit scared this thread could have died when checking a few days ago…

I recorded some videos about my experiences with playing improvised techno liveshows and share a few of my production and improvisation tricks on the Digitakt.
You might know a lot of these methods already but maybe there are some new ideas in there.
