The improvised techno thread

I do not and will not have 7 spare hours to get high and watch youtube in the foreseeable future, but I can confirm that just listening to this set (without watching much) while looking at spreadsheets and emails doesn’t suck either.
I can understand the restraint, as this is a high stakes game which can fail miserably if not done well.

For those that don’t have 7 hours, maybe you have 12 mins:
The DFAM is sequenced via Digitakt, so trig conditions aplenty and non 8 pattern lengths really remove the limits imposed by the DFAM sequencer.
All hail the ‘DFAM Thing’ by Serendipity - If you have a DFAM, I can highly recommend it and owe it to your self to get one:

if you only have 4 spare mins, then have a listen to this one, or don’t :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :

So the last few days I finally plugged in my Boss RC-505 that I purchased a while ago. It has been a revelation. Using my Perkons and Syntakt to jam away has been a lot of fun, just what i was looking for. I have now come to realise that the Syntakt is not right for me in this setup though, too many menus and button presses, I need a WYSIWYG synth. The search continues…

Interesting…Any video/audio examples of what you’re doing with it? I’ve used loopy pro a bit on iPad…with good results, but not sure loopers are for me, even though I do dabble

So what are everyone’s essential/favourite FX pedals for live performance and why? I always have a reverb and delay pedal hooked up, but I think I need to add a few more for some colour and variety.

I always just use either Digitakt/TR8s reverb & delays, just as they are conveniently already integrated into my set-up with the line ins. I’ve thought about about pedals, but I think it would be just a distraction for myself…and more wires. I’ll use iOS effects sometimes, Bram bos Perforator is a particular fave for gate fx, as a side note it can also be a midi CC controller too and is great for live.

Any issues with latency with using iOS for FX?

there is some latency I guess, which can vary depending on tempo /app / iPad model audio interface etc etc, but I find it mostly it is not noticeable.

[EDIT] - I notice AUM has the round trip latency number if you tap on a AUv3 windows nav bar, the bit at the top. Must have been added recently as I didn’t know about it until I disovered last week. But that gave very accurate figure like 20.83ms or something

Top stuff. Like the bass sounds.

Eventide Space. Use it very un-subtle. Knop per function really does make me play it more. I’ve been using the dual reverb for the last months. Both can have different low/high EQ, pre delay, decay, size. Especcially the different pre delays and tones can add a lot of additional rythm and space to simple sequences.

(I love fx. Hope to hear from more of you your replies to this!) How about you @Grate_expectations?

Currently the Zen Delay and Space are on the desk. But Zen is up for sale and I’m going back to the Source Audio Nemesis delay. I also have an effect rack in Ableton and I use a midi fighter twister to control 16 macros. So that’s kind of like a pedal?

Edit: currently using Klevgrand Modley to build some wild delays in the Ableton effect rack.

I will pick up a minibrute 2s tomorrow and run it through an eventide tricerachorus, a strymon dig and a eventide blackhole. Feed that chain into the looper and build tracks from that. Perkons on drum duty.

Blackhole is def my second most used on my Space. I really don’t care that I’m late on the bandwagon, that shit just sounds so good / ads a lot to simple sounds.

Chorus I don’t care too much for. Maybe cause I’m still focused on learning to mix, and that just adds frequencies quickly, or so I always think.

I’ve had the Dig - it sounds good right?

Sounds great. I have the first version so no midi is the only downside.

Thanks man, happy you enjoyed the sound :sunglasses::pray:

Just finished setting up the new stuff and of course I’m missing a cable…
