This might be techno. It’s definitely improvised. It’s probably not the worst thing that ever happened because of me.
All I hear is some asshole going bananas on the delay. I thought about redoing it but that’s not very improvisational.
Some information you didn’t ask for and shouldn’t waste your time with: It’s accidental acid. I like to record a shitload of loops for my live sets and of course 75% of them go unused. These acidy sounding loops were originally proper basslines, four bars in length. Whilst fooling around determining which unused loops were worth keeping I pitched one of these up an octave in Blackbox and boom, instant two bar acid. There are two little percussion loops furnished by the mighty and magnanimous @Claid and the kick is from his Pulsar 23 sample pack. The previously mentioned ‘acid’ loops were created with a Circuit Mono Station run through a Soldano Supercharger GTO. The only sound source here is Blackbox but it was run through an Octatrack and RMX-1000 for effects.
This isn’t something current of mine but I have been into improvised music for about the last 4 years now. The I did quite a bit of research and study at one point and was able to make a system that was my take on the Steevio Method however in only two rows of 104hp.
I’ve since moved on from eurorack, mainly for financial reasons but for true improv it’s my opinion that nothing nails it quite like a well built eurorack system designed for that purpose.

A bit later on I was able to do the same thing but using just about half the HP as before. Both the system above and this one below were designed for making techno in the moment.
Not sure which one I like more actually, but this one has a darker flair to it for sure……
Last week I picked up a Syntakt. It sounds great but it’s going back. I just don’t jive with the Elektron menu system and interface anymore. From now on I’m only getting gear that is knob per function. Improvising with menu based instruments just isn’t for me.
Here’s part of a first improvisation session with a completely new setup that I’m working on. Still a long way to go but it’s been fun so far. Playing live quite a few times this and next month. Scary but exciting
Thanks!
Have had a 96 in the past (did a few demo and reviews on my channel) but now really switched for this setup. Mainly because i don’t want to drag a mixer with me. Plan was to keep the setup as compact as I can fit in the hand luggage when travelling by plane. Perkons is huge so a mixer is a no go. 96 I can put on a rider more easily. I don’t need the input matrix and loopers anymore either. And 96’s headroom and sound are superior. Plus more ew control
I’m digging the new jams! In the video one from the first post I like the direction things take when the bass comes in around 9:00. I’m just getting in to the bandcamp one from your newest post as we speak. It’s lending some much needed energy to my morning!
Are you still getting rid of the DFAM? Every time I think I’m going to jettison mine I hook it up, start jamming, and then I can’t do it. In fact that very process occurred again this week. I go for long periods without ever firing it up and I start to feel guilty. I guess at this point I should just realize that certain things may be fairly indispensable even if they’re not daily drivers.
Oh man I wish! I work in a warehouse so it’s pretty hands on most of the day. If I have to walk from one end of the place to the other and my hands aren’t full I do take a peek but I can rarely have time to post.
I haven’t seen these. I initially found you a couple years back searching for Elektron stuff. I stayed for all the DB4 content and then less than two weeks later one came up on my local craigslist for $1200. Total no brainer and it changed everything around here. So thanks for making all those DB4 videos! My current plan is to avoid your 96 videos because I don’t need to be gassing on mixers right now :0)
That one’s been influenced by all the Perkons HD-1 audio that I’ve been consuming this last week…it probably sounds nothing like Perkons tbh, it’s just made me focus on a raw/heavy vibe.
DFAM - Aaha, I just removed it from sale and will keep it I think. I really love it but am still struggling intergrating into live set up effectively. Sync’ing is fine, I like the seq (most don’t) but famous lack of reset/midi is a bit frustrating, I did try the Korg SQ-1 but that just scattered my brain more and I lost track of what was going on with too many spaghetti wires, will try and get a DFAM Thing when they become available. Also, DFAM sound either dominates too much or I find it hard to switch direction mid session, Noir on the iPad was great as instant recall of patches. Recently started using DFAM as bleepy sound source instead of heavy thumping bass. My journey shall continue to new lands…
It’s great now that I’ve got 5 pieces of gear permanently hooked up and ready to go. Although I’ve less of a focused direction, more gear == more directions / possibilities. I’ve noticed I just mess around and just have noodle fun , but ultimately less productive. All good though.
Sadly, the link doesn’t work for me on my iPhone, get a warning that it isn’t secure, tried to ignore it and got a message in Dutch or German. Won’t play embedded either. Will try on laptop later…
