The improvised techno thread

Glad you have a regular link, I’m way too young and hip to use Facebook. It’s so 2015.

I feel it. Just listened to that most recent YouTube one again.

That domination is a thing and sometimes I use another filter on my mixer to help put it in its place. Maybe even some ring mod if I’m feeling zany.

You may have tried this already but I only thought of it yesterday. I use the TR trigger out to sync DFAM. Typically with eight or 16 triggers so it’ll stay synced. When using eight I realized that you can jumble them all up on the fly and as long as there’s always eight in place the two units will stay synced bar for bar. I definitely got some rhythmic variation this way but to be honest it has not yet been quite as exciting as I’d hoped for when I thought of it. Still it’s a new idea for me so maybe putting in some more time will pay off. Which is what I will do right now :0)

Some nice sounds in here.

Yeah, I change the number of triggers from TR8s, some times just 2 lots of 2 and max VCA For a loooong note, and another variation with all 16 on , nice for breakdowns/switch ups. Odd numbers too, two lots of 7 per 16  experiment lots . Hope you you found some neat tricks/settings :muscle:t2:

The synth drones sound around 39 mins actually sound like the Q Swarm , do you recall what is making it, Syntakt?

Great set :bomb:, looking forward to more :muscle:t2:

Here is some improvised techno made with Rytm. Not totally from scratch but the structure is flexible enough to keep me on my toes:

Comments warmly welcome.

Thanks !
Yeah dude, likewise! Fun to meet up with a fellow Naut as well.

@kryten42 if you mean around 38 mins that’s perkons  after that the chord machine of syntakt takes over. Thank you!

Here’s a recording of my set a a festival called Chateau Perché back in July that is now out as a podcast :

Octatrack/Tanzmaus + a 6u modular. Everything on the modular and Tanzmaus is improvised, the Octatrack helps anchor things a bit.

here’s me bobbing towards the end of the set :

Fantastic improv! The Perkons has a really nice character to it :metal:

Are you keeping it in your setup for now?

loaded 5 samples on the m8, stuck the modular into it, the mixer into the modular and started connecting cables and turning knobs. it was fun. here’s a video as well.

I think this current rig I’m working on may be nice for improvising techno too

Octatrack mki + monotribe + microfreak + mbase

Sampler and mixer, mono synth and para synth on steroids. #techno #electronicmusic #liveperformance #fun #raw #octatrack #monotribe #microfreak"

I picked up a Perkons and this is now the centre of my rig. I’m away from music making for the immediate future (we just had a baby) but I’m still looking for a companion synth. Although it’s not knob-per-function I’m considering the A4 again because it just offers so much. It’s either the a4 or the norand mono, mostly because I really like sequencers that go deep. I figure the work flow will be to program some patterns and sounds on the synth prior to jamming. I had an A4 before and enjoyed the sound. Not sure why I sold it really… I think it’s because I was trying to use it as a groove box and found that a bit clumsy.

Anyway, these are my ramblings after another night of limited sleep…

Microfreak looks top for this, I’ve been tempted a few times to get one and pull off the keyboard and make it a sound module. Either that or minibrute > skinnybrute.

I should be asleep… …again…

However, the M hath beckoned.

That keyboard is actually pretty good, with after touch, and it can also be used for modulation, so I wouldn’t even think about chopping it off

In this setup is used as an hybrid semi modular, responsable of sequences. I found it really powerful for such matter, as it has a lot of different digital oscilators in such small size, an analog filter that sounds pretty interesting, plus all its routing and patching possibilities. Kind of a hybrid digital semi modular on steroids.

I just purchased it last week, second hand, and still pending to update and add the monster unison plus the rest of other juicy oscilators

Definitely hours of fun in such little box.
Filter is also pretty cool and multimode.
This synth can be a beast, depending on use.
Perfect fit for current setup.

Congrats on the Perkons and a huge congratulations on becoming a father. It really is life changing.

The best techno synth I’ve seen out there is the Swarm. I love @kryten42 music! I watched a video from Mylarmelodies on it and it really is a tremendous synth for techno. You mentioned A4 again… I personally don’t think that the menu diving, that you will eventually end up doing, is going to be your cuppa tea mate. You have to dig for that machine to spit stuff out… you want a machine that you can turn on and get jamming. You want it to be immediately fun and have loads of sweet spots. Either the Swarm or look at modular

Hi Friends! This is a 22 minute improved set from my studio in Washington, D.C.

I found my new Strega especially helpful for holding the fort while I did some live patching about three quarters in. I think the logical solution would be a looper to achieve the same ends, but I was pretty happy.
