What does ‘something nobody with a functioning brain has ever thought be overblown’ even mean?
‘Dumb argument’ - nice ad hominem, do you have a point of view you’d like to share? Sounds like you have some insight that utterly dominates everyone elses?
‘Nobody is worried about ai replacing creativity’ - wonderful, you’ve done a survey and now it’s a fact?
’ guessing only a clankerphile would come up with that… so barren of thought’ - I’m sure that’s an educated guess. Please elaborate so we can learn from you.
Yes, my question specifically referred to learning from AI and mocking up ideas based on AI’s output and using those in your music, that is not using AI’s output directly.
As long as you don’t use the direct (often finger-printed) output of an AI, but just use the said output for mocking up an idea or even just learning from it, good luck to anyone to even find in which song you may have finally used such an idea.
Just to caution against anyone who says that novel ideas can come from these models, I have seen a few examples where some research group heralded a new innovation in an algorithm that had never been thought of before, and then in the comments someone linked the research paper that it was trained on and wholesale ripped off the solution (plagiarized, since it was an academic context.)
Why are you so insistent on using a strawman to argue against me. I never said you can’t put a chord progression in your music. I said it’s a risk to inject generated content into your music.
You are saying “I can get around it,” and “I can do this if I want,” and you’re right, you absolutely can. I am just pointing out that copyright on generative AI content is not a figured out subject and presents a unique risk to businesses. Nothing you have said acknowledges that you understand that I am discussing RISK, not what WILL happen.
just imagine the gaslighting and denial that the advent of AI is just beginning to cause in it’s infancy …
people have no response to the fact that.
AI is literally designed to take your place
AI will lower the cost of creation but for artist in business it will lower the value of your work so you will get paid less and your art will be worth less.
AI will lower the craftsmanship of artistry because it will lower the amount of craftsmanship as it’s designed to do
AI won’t innovate anything, why would it if it can’t be bothered to stimulate craftsmanship
AI will not try to get you to practice your instrument, on the contrary…
AI will encourage children, and the most vulnerable to pretend they are something they are not.
it seems like the main thing people want to hide about AI is the very nature of AI , it’s like talking about a preacher, priest, or rabbi but avoiding the subject of religion at all cost FFS
that’s not how being good for Musical Artist even works
The people over the moon about it are some of the biggest pretenders. The managers masquerading as real systems programmers discussing how it has changed the game because now they can contribute with ease, without realizing that they’re compounding problems over long periods of time that cannot be quantified immediately.
I didn’t say this in reply above because I did not want to continue to fight it, the risks are unique because of the scale. If you use models and scale rapidly under fraudulent circumstances, you are fucked in a much bigger way than you were before.
If you commit code that sucks ass but “works” (kinda-ish), after the 10th commit of that nature, you are worse off than you were before. Unless you are skilled, and understand what you are doing, how to use a tool, how not to subsidize these models at the expense of your own learning, you will become the product rather than a consumer.
My favorite quote about the problem with AI is that it gives capital access to labor without giving labor access to capital.
What’s funny to me is that the best case outcome for Silicon Valley is that they automate us all out of a job and suck up all the money, i.e worst case scenario for the rest of us. While the worst case scenario for Silicon Valley is the wide scale rejection or failure of AI tools, which makes all their investment go up in smoke, losing untold billions for their industry, but largely returns to the status quo for the rest of us. That tells you everything you need to know right there
