Record labels want AI for their own use out of greed
Besides I like making own music from start to finish for full artistic vision, license and control.

Sadly I don’t think so, especially as long as people are under the impression that artists are a bunch of spoiled and picky freeloaders (the prevailing view of those who support the likes of big tech’s views they entertain for engagement, and executives’ embrace of AI).
There’s gonna be many who are gonna be using stuff like Suno et al., and either they don’t care, or they’re more likely to support the likes of a certain electric truck salesman than their local and/or online individual artist.
If it weren’t for that, I’d have taken the dark path. I envy those who are able to get a lot of joy, and are incredibly capable of making music they like (and to a lesser extent other art too). Sadly I’m the type of idiot that only tends to find unrelated stuff like games fun, even if some are taking a direction I don’t like (even without AI usage).

unfortunately you are probably right. I have messed around a bit with Sono and AI tools but dislike how they completely warp my vision for a song. I really only need mastering tools to clean up final mix and can use stuff like Soundtoys and Izotope Ozone for that without losing the heart and soul of my work. Once I line up a female vocalist then I can record my trance album.

that’s always been the play for corporate copyright owners. monetize any new tech to their own benefit. musicians are just more vulnerable to that kind of exploitation than other creative types because they don’t have a strong union representing their interests against the bosses

Its just an unstoppable train. Even our regular jobs are on the line. Best is to learn cooking food and sell it. Future proof job right now.
Within 10 years, things we know of today will be so different. Some good, some bad.
Same for people experienced the 90’s to 2000, the enormous tech jump.

I’m 54. That means in my lifetime I have experienced the birth and maturation of:
Personal computers
Email and the Internet
Broadband
Mobile phones
The mobile Internet
Streaming services
Social media
LLMs, generative AI, and machine learning
None of the above existed (to all intents and purposes) in my childhood.
I’m Gen X and we’re the pivot generation. Our parents struggled with it all but our kids don’t even question it.
It is quite dizzying if I think about it but I’ve always been into tech so I’ve always just embraced it and it never felt like a jump. In fact I’ve been a developer since the 90s so I actively contributed to it all.

Why does Music have to be Mainstream anyway. These days you can create your own stuff without going through record companies. Dont want to use Ai then don’t. But put a note to say you have used it out of decency if nothing else.

well conspiracy theory makes for great song writing lyric fodder at least for me. AI will unfortunately take over unless we unite and stop it. Peter Thiel and billionaires are the ones pushing it and buying governments for control.
Just goes to show you a power of these companies. On one side Udio locking you out of “your” music with a flip of a switch, and second the power of 3 biggest music labels suing you into bankruptcy
