The Elektron documentation thread

There is no reference to the sequencer page loop feature in the Digitakt 2, Digitone 2, or Syntakt manuals

For digitakt2 it’s described in section 10.2.2 (grid recording mode). Second bullet point in the tips.

Thanks for pointing that out.
When I searched (using the magnifying glass) the manual for “page loop”, it found nothing.
Also it is missing from the shortcuts section at the end of the manual.
Would like to see it included there.

Interestingly, page loop is also missing from the index. That, arguably, needs a fix too.

Hello,
Thank you for your help with my first thread. I admit that I probably had a manual in my language that was too old, or that I hadn’t seen it. (I won’t make that mistake again, even though I asked several questions in my post like here. Bothersome questions were ignored, as were requests. I’ll try to post each problem or request separately in the future…).

So here’s my request, which I think everyone will appreciate: a manual in ALL languages would be great. I imagine it takes time and doesn’t make you any money, but it would be nice to respect your customers by publishing a manual in all languages (at least the main languages spoken in the world: English (okay), but also Spanish, French, Japanese, German, and more!) with every update; it’s essential, especially for anything technical. This would probably save you >30% of forum posts and customers who encounter difficulties just because of it. (Yes, there are other countries where not everyone is fluent in the technical English needed to make music with Elektron.)

Thank you,

Musically,

AureL.

Please excuse my English and please don’t take my words the wrong way. It’s a good idea; I’m just trying to help everyone (including myself!).

Use Deepl.com (…But I would also like a manual in Low German…)

I dont see why you bring this respect thing on the table.
Would you prefer they spend money on langages you don’t speak or developing New features ? I believe regularly bringing new OS updated is a way to show respect to customers.

Moderator Edit : You can’t put (nor advocate that here) copyrighted material in the cloud.

Thanks for pointing that out, I can see how that might be a problem for users of the free version.

Do you think that is also the case for Google Workspace Users – provided ·you do not share the notebook and only use it privately? Because that looks like fair use to me, just like storing a copy on Dropbox, in iCloud or in a Backup in Backblaze.

However, just to be sure I asked Elektron Support, because whatever we may think, they can clear this up.

No worries, that’s not the goal, the goal is to offer things that can improve the machine (like 16 banks instead of 8 (wow the response to this is epic!), like manuals in all languages, and a proposal for solo). (there was still one suggestion for midi (because it’s impossible to adjust the midi latency unless my poorly translated manual misleads me, or there’s a workaround I don’t know about, but hey, more time is spent reacting to emotion against me, and taking things out of context, and even reading me to the end seems like an insurmountable effort.
But that’s ALSO why I asked for a manual in all languages, but no one reads everything I write, obviously, the answers don’t match. Especially if you take ONE sentence out of context, but I understand, obviously, that I prefer you to work on new features! Thanks! No problem with that, maybe you should read me in full, because well, it happens, and if I’m wrong, I’m wrong, no problem admitting it and apologizing for my ignorance. That said, an updated manual in my language is something I think should be done, even if it mustn’t be that difficult? Besides, it would avoid 30% of the posts on this forum. Anyway… money for the publicity you’re getting from the forum are blocking the thing?

Excuse my cutting tone, but I prefer this to bland posts that add nothing. If that doesn’t suit you (it already doesn’t suit the community that advocates for you, even if it’s detrimental to them…), in short, I’ll read the manual in English and take the machine as it is (that’s already what I do), no problem. If no one can stand the contradiction in the forum and censors me, I don’t know what else to say other than: too sad.

Have a good day,

Sincerely,

AureL

Going back to the subject:

Digitakt 2: Only english manual? Why?

Even supporting the two 1 to 4 languages they already do, the manuals are often inaccurate, and, I infer, hard to keep up to date.

Regarding the two languages chosen, neither none of which are the native languages of the company Elektron, I can only suppose they chose the languages that would have the most reach in their target markets.

EDIT: okay I was apparently wrong on two languages … it’s 4, but only one (english) is up to date.

Wait, Elektron has manuals? Awesome!

Translating a manual of this magnitude is massive, massive work.

You can see that supporting multiple languages did not work out too well for Digitone and Digitakt, only the English version is up to date, other versions the oldest version is 8 years out of date.

I have a couple of years of experience setting up and managing translation projects for documentation into multiple languages. You can’t just send out an updated copy to a translator and they’ll send you back a new version, you need software, automation, and a robust process to achieve that, at least if you expect a result that is consistent and actually looks nice. And of course, with no experience you will figure that out the hard way.

From that perspective it’s entirely reasonable to only offer an English version that looks nice and is typically – except for minor errors – very accurate.

As a workaround you can consult the English manual with notebooklm. Just import the manual and you can ask questions in your language and get replies in your language. Way more powerful than a search in a pdf.
It even helps with solutions for questions you have and that are not explicitly documented.

You shouldn’t be uploading copyright material to that particular tool though, that’s not what it’s for

OT MKII manual page 71:

SLOTS Incoming MIDI notes will trigger the project’s sample slots using the SLICES MIDI note mapping. For more information, please see “C.3 SLOTS NOTE MAPPING” on page 138.

SLICES Incoming MIDI notes will trigger the tracks sample slices individually using the SLICES MIDI note mapping. For more information, please see “C.4 SLICES NOTE MAPPING” on page 138.

Pretty sure the bolded SLICES is supposed to say SLOTS unless I’m misunderstanding something.

Tonverk Manual, p40. says

However, I found that it also effects at least the delay time of the saturator delay when used as insert effects, and therefore likely other effect parameters as well, likely candidates are:

  • Chrono Pitch Speed
  • Comp Filter Speed
  • Frequency Warper Speed
  • Infinite Flanger Speed
  • Low Pass Filter Speed
  • Panoramic Chorus Speed
  • Phase 98 Speed

With busses and sends also having tracks and therefore a SCALE, I’d also recommend looking at Daisy Delay Time and Warble Speed.

To be consistent, Reverb Predelay times should also follow SCALE, right?

Good comment. I will investigate this and add it to the manual if needed. Thanks!

Also, sorry for being a bit invisible here lately. The Tonverk manual kept me really busy this year.
