I’ve never really noticed it in all these years. Tunnelview, lost in the machine
Last night, when I was half asleep, I dreamed of holding down the track button, changing all the parameters of an already existing beat at once and putting these (chache saved) variations of the new crazy beat on an encoder knob on a performance page (like analog four) to fade between A and B.
I wonder if it would even be possible to code something like that? Cache saving variation and then assign to an encoder via button click to fade back and forth between the previous and the new one?
Imagine 8 variations that you created almost randomly that you can fade back and forth between in the track. Would be really something and would give back the feeling of a live performer.
They did get rid of them! On the silver 25th Anniversary „Remix” Edition. Not a MK2 at all, but still - labels are gone.
Thought up an additional machine for Digitakt. Called POLY, it would allow one audio track to commandeer any number of tracks to the right of it for use as a polyphonic synth / sampler. Any tracks commandeered for the POLY machine will be selectable in the regular view, but their settings will be merged with the first track assigned the POLY machine because they are acting as voices.
For example, using tracks 1 - 4 as one shot drum and bass tracks, and track 5 as a POLY sustained piano or string track. As of version 1.50 there are two blank spots in TRIG page. I propose one of those blank slots allows you to select the number of voices (in this case 4, track 5 to 8), with each voice commandeering an additional track to the right until you hit track 8. To make this work you may have to individually select each track to be a POLY machine available for commandeering. The left most track closest to track 1 will be the master poly track. If track 5’s poly voice setting was only 2 voices, even though the rest of the tracks 5 - 8 were set to POLY, then track 5 and 6 would be bonded, and track 7 would be a separate master to track 8. This would be wiped out if track 5 suddenly set it’s poly to 4 and took over the rest of the tracks. POLY voice chains would probably have to be adjacent to each other rather than having a ONESHOT, WERP, REPITCH or a SLICE machine in between POLY machines.
Functionally, all of the parameters in the SRC, FLTR, AMP and LFO would be the same as the ONESHOT machine, with the caveat that (in this example) track 5’s POLY machine would be the only track capable of affecting the rest of the commandeered track’s parameters. Example, setting the FLTR frequency in track 5 would adjust it across all of the rest of the voices, and changing the sample slot would also affect the rest of the voices the same way. Imagine POLY P Locks holy shit!
I’d imagine that there’d be some development hurdles to get over in sequencing, but I guess you’d be able to view how all the notes shake out in GRID REC mode over all the tracks but also be able to use the chromatic keyboard on track 5 to perform the chords or synth lines that ring past each other as the sequencer advances which voice to use based on how it’s performed.
Hope this all makes sense, and hope Elektron at least sees this suggestion! Thanks!
Addition: I just realized, the rest of the machines could also work under this same premise, and thus be the second blank option in the TRIG menu to choose from (ONESHOT / WERP / REPITCH / SLICE / ). Imagine having polyphony on all of those paradigms!
on the occasion of the release of the ALM Busy Ciriuts Cizzle: what about a phase distortion machine (Casio CZ style)? Elektron could perhaps base the algorithm on the open Braids code from mutable instruments.
I would like to have the ability to apply simple effects such as on pocket operator po-12.
I would like to be able to copy song’s rows to another song. Maybe this could be as easy as being able to select more than one row at the time to be able to copy them, then change the song and copy the rows from the first song in there. Or maybe in the songs menu, where “rename, clear, load, save to project” are, another option like “copy song” or “copy all rows”
Or is there any other way to achieve this? I start to be limited by the 16 songs… and thought, if a song has 99 rows, maybe i can think of a workaround but would be much easier this way. Or can anybody think of a workaround for this?
well, now I want to know, which features will eventually trickle down from the mark II.
Aw fuckkkk.
I wasn’t looking forward to it, whyyyyyy did you post this…
Maybe the visual signs on the right that lets you know which page you’re currently editing.
Hopefully the comb filter and the chorus.
STILL NO ZOOM ON SAMPLE PAGE ! ! !
or… ?
Guess everybody got one wish fulfilled with DT2
- you got master overdrive,
- I got „NOT“ trig conditions,
- somebody else got stereo sampling and
- another one 16 tracks,
- and they scrubbed the track names (@screech_powers) .
Nice treat
Euclidean…
Now that the DT2 is out, what do you think the chances are the Euclidean sequencer mode will be ported to the DT1?
Which timeframe?
Within lifespan of Elektron company and DT support before reverse engineering by the community and independent development (like MD), my guess would be p=0.008
Within 3 years my guess p=0.003
Within 1.5 years my guess p=0.0015
Within 1 year p=0.000001
If it is a completely different platform it could mean investing important resources, which would rather be invested in Tonverk right now to bring a feature to the DT which was just recently introduced and was not so much asked for before in a discontinued product.
After all, upgrading costs just a little bit more than play to play+ provided you have a little patience to wait for the November price dip and can sell your DT for a reasonable price.
If they want to implement it in another machine, my guess would rather be A4, or DN (long time to update), or even OT (to elongate life of OT a little bit longer until Tonverk or something else will replace and surpass the ancient demigod).
DT2 could be even better with a Sid-machine and ST with a simple sample playback feature - I doubt both.
DT2 would also profit from a transpose column for selected tracks in song mode (don’t remember if other Elektron machines have that), like MMT-8 or RK-008, or transpose tracks by semitones (either shift sequence or a track parameter), but I also don’t think that would have priority, even if it was on the road map.
How about trigs/p-locks to set things on another track (like neighbor track). You could set both tracks to different rhythms or lengths and have great polyrhythmic modulation. Could also have a setting to send those p locks from modulator lane to add to more than one track at once. Logic rhythm heavens
I think the comb filter is something I was asking for, very cool addition.
Yet many requests, not just mine, for a proper slicing mode were purposefully snubbed. At this point, knowing Elektron, it can only be because of Octatrack MK3.
What are these NOT conditions you speak of?.
it is the possibility of “not” playing a trig. Before you had for example:
2:4, which meant the trigger played the second time of four cycles.
now we have 2:4 with a hat on it, which is the “NOT” function. That means, the trigger is playing in the cycles 1, 3, and 4. but “not” in the 2 cycle. As far as I understand.
I knew what NOT meant just hadn’t seen them mentioned in the demos, another useful addition.
