I have never used Bitwig, but im laooking at a DAW that can run on linux natively.
I have question for bitwig expert regarding to the grid:
is it possible to control the modules that are in a patch by midi-cc using an external controller ? I would like to be able to design my own synth/fx using the grid and to control them using an electra one controller.
Is it possible to use the grid to group a vst instrument and some vst or native fx a bit like in Carla ? Basically i would like to use the grid to extend some vst I own, but im not sure it has been designed for that …
Is it possible to control a vst fx or instrument via midi-cc even if this vst has no midi learn feature ?(basically this is possible with carla, but then I run into other issues, so im wondering if using bitwig could sort this).
Nice find: I should have searched on “moon,” but I assumed that was just me being un-technical. Still, the people at that thread aren’t exactly 100% sure, and if their guess is correct, it seems to have no use for the ordinary user because I presume things wake and rest as needed. The devs should document it in the manual and add an option to not display it.
is there way to send my Lexicon MPX1 44.1 spidif signal in a 96k project? other option is 2x d/a conversion, seems odd to have to convert to analog, and then back to digital, rather than down convert to 44.1 for ONE “lane” in a project?
any big brain people have a way to do this without a bunch of D/A conversion?
Scarlett 18i20 -> MPX1 -> 18i20
the MPX1 works internally 24/44.1 and will ONLY accept a 44.1 sync signal from 18i20
probably i find another forum to post this in, but i use bitwig on linux as main tracker, and would be nice to have MPX1 fit in my 96k projects.
…96k and focusrite are two things i can’t put together in my head…sorry…
and spdif in/out, to and from an early 80ties lexicon device…?..puh, what ur up to…?
give bitwigs reverbaration capacities a second look…
If you’ve never used hardware, there are tons of vintage units with great sounds both analog and digital, friend. if you haven’t discovered that yet, you’ve got a lot of exploring to do…
and in my head, it sounds easier to down convert something from 96k to 44.1k (in real-ish time) than it does to convert it to analog, have the MPX1 convert it to digital and then back to analog and then have the scarlett make it digital again. IDK…
if there were any DAW capable of this, i would think Bitwig could. Maybe there some VST out there. this is probably what JACK is for on linux and i don’t want to get into programming, LoL
…a dp4+ is an argument…the mpx not so much…
…and i see ur point in avoiding converting too much, since focusrite is pretty unglamming all ur “vintage” hardware…but if u don’t wanna dither around instead of converting forth and back u better watch out for truu halfing ur digital overall k cake rate…96k makes only sense if ur 48k in basic resolution…44k, well, asks for 88k…to avoid raising wordclock clicking…which is even way more annoying than bad converting…
but…ooops we’re going pretty off topic from here…basically…i don’t see any point in running 96k sessions in bitwig…while there are too many good reasons to run 48k, though…
whatsoever…ur old rack fx gear would shine most, with simply some better converting instead of slowing down all bitwigs realtime bliss by forcing it to process such headheavy xtra hi res sessions…
Well, I have a question. Maybe someone here can answer real quick. A big part of my workflow with Bitwig is to record stems. The way I did this in Ableton was to midi sync my OT and whatever was hooked into it as a slave to Ableton, then go to Ableton and launch a record clip with the record clip on the bottom blown up, so I could watch the waveform coming in. Love this and miss it. I’m sure there is a way to view the input of a clip in Bitwig, but I just don’t know how to put the question to google it. I see for the clip window that you can press the follow playback button and this will work for playback. But, I want to follow the recording? Make sense?
I guess my question is. Is there a way to watch the audio/midi being recorded into a clip (in mixer view) when I hit record on an audio or midi clip.
Me too. Analog Heat works great with Bitwig as a plugin here. Using a RME Babyface as my main sound card. Two things happen to me. Nothing that get in the way much, but it does drop out sometimes if I’m using it for a few hours. I just have to restart the AH, so the plug-in can recognize it again. Also, I use Bitwig to chop up longer loops and recordings of other machines, and when I try to bounce down a large number of slices with the AH on them, the sound comes out all strange. So, I just have to bounce each slice individually. But, besides that, I’m getting really low latency and the integration is great.
Just dropping by to say that my (admittedly brief so far) experience with Bitwig and OB for Analog Rytm and Analog Four has been just great. Throwing a ton of extra modulators at all the parameters (and other modulators) is so simple and has these things making brand new sounds. Really feels like a best of both worlds between modular-style experimentation and DAW style repeatability and hardware control when needed.
I was a little afraid of making the Bitwig plunge at first because it seemed like it might be too much of a change from what I was used to (Live). But after one too many Live 11 weirdnesses I took the plunge and though Bitwig definitely has some (great seeming) unfamiliar territories it also seems like it’s just contains a way snappier version of Live with a faster/better UI and incredible modulation and Elektron style trig conditions. I will miss the Max-integration for sure but uh, I think this is where I will be for a minute!
How do you send audio to the Digitakt via Overbridge in Bitwig? I can’t figure it out
In fact - is there a good tutorial for setting up Overbridge in Bitwig in general. I am able to set it up on a basic level but I’m sure I’m missing some tricks. For example, someone above mentioned separate midi tracks and all this good stuff.
I dug a little deeper, added all the chains incl. the input L & R but I can’t figure out how to send audio to that. I tried routing a track’s output to the VST and set the input on Digitakt to USB L&R but nothing. Harrumph!
