The Behringer Gear-in-progress Thread

Sure , and it would be even easier to just load the samples into a DAW… i for one am getting one for the individual outs so i can spread them across the good old analogue board, latency free.

I just think that the CR-78 is kinda seen as one of the ‘holy grail’ pieces of equipment amongst the analogue-fan crowd

I hate bringing out my 68 or 78 to gigs. They’re also kind of a pain in the ass to sync to midi gear. I either need to send a clock to my KS37 from my 68 or use a sync box for the 78. I never wanted to midify either of those boxes or have to mod them for individual outs. I’m never going to try and convince anyone why the 68 and 78 sound good. Instead, this is why I’ll take a chance on this.

Yeah it’s really cool they‘re making this since there’s no other way to get the real deal but with more modern features and form factor. I was just being a bit skeptical about how many people are really looking for this kind of drum machine. My guess is that most people looking for an affordable drum machine are more interested in something that’s a known classic for techno/house or has samples. I can see this getting popular amongst more guitarry artists though who are looking for a way to sound like Mac de Marco or Courtney Barnett.

It is still a highly desirable sound amongst the minimal / cold wave crowd.

I like my KR55B a lot, it’s the same idea but a different sound set. I think these kind of machines are relevant. I don’t make techno, but even if someone did, I can see it being interesting especially with individual instrument processing.

The reason I didn’t preorder (despite lusting after CR78’s) is that it’s 54% more expensive than the RD6 and I’m just cheap enough that I’m hoping that the price will drop once it’s been out for a while. If it had been $130, I think they would have caught me out on this one.

But I do personally really enjoy some of the old preset machine type sounds, and luckily, I’ve got midi installed on my KR so I’m not limited to the preset rhythms.

I think Aphex Twin has a song using the Korg minipops as the primary instrument doesn’t he?

Yeah, minipops 67… I’m sorry if it’s off topic to mention, but I think these rhythm machines are relevant to some people.

Is this what you are talking about ?? The board on the right is Behringer GIP.

Then it would be on topic.

They also have the Simmons SDS-3 in the works.

And the Syncussion so analog drums they have. Then sample them to a LM-Drum or BMX (GIP). :grinning:

Question about RD/TR 78: Am I correct that this drum machine only allows you control over volume levels of the tracks? Meaning: the only thing I‘m missing out on when using samples are the slight variations and imperfections that analog processing introduces? Or are there some hidden controls to change decay, pitch or other things?

how is this ugly? it barely had some graphical design at the top portion. In general, it can be construed that the panels were bad designs but one man’s meat is another man’s poison right.

Some people are into aesthetics (think black panels only group) and some aren’t. It is how one chooses to look at them, e.g. when the few of them “janky” panels are in one case, it may still look coherent somehow.

Best part, you can keep slagging off Behringer and still be enticed to get their low-budget offerings.

Eurorack are rarely wahooo, I mean I like synth/drum machine aesthetic sometimes and some brand are more appealing visually than other.
But… eurorack, it has never done me anything.

In comparison to some of the Mutable clones they’ve done and the Pharao Mini this looks fine .

Interested! If it sounds decent it’s something of a no brainer for experimentally minded euro folk… I don’t have a eurorack though this is one of those where I may house it in a standalone type thing if it’s worth keeping.

I’ve nearly pulled the trigger on a few bits of Behringer now… could this one pull me over the line?

I wonder if they addressed the loss of lower end with resonance. They’re definitely aware as there is plenty of examples…
