I don’t think the 1000 really has much of a ‘sound’ does it? By that point things were pretty hifi.
It’s all about the SP-202 (Standard quality which is around 15khz samplerate) for me. I’ve gotten damn close with plugins and other gear but that little box does something quite special to a jazz sample. I’d take that sound over an SP1200 even.
Never doubt ‘that sound’. It exists.
Besides, nothing sounds better than anything through my Korg E2’s outputs. Go figure.

A lot of youtubers are full of shit. The build quality is solid. The plastic is super sturdy and it feels super nice. Almost like a vintage PC keyboard. Those clunky mofos.
I can swear I saw a video on YT where the reviewer was changing the way the knobs catch the value (CATCH / JUMP). Am I missing something? Those little arrows that tell you where the knob value is, are annoying AF.
Man this thing really feels like an upgraded MPC 500 and it’s super easy to get going. Kudos AKAI!

I love the 202 as well. I have to admit though that guy on YouTube called The Pink Lady Apple House has been posting a bunch of 1200 videos and it sounds so good. It’s got a ton of headroom on it. For a minute I thought he was micing up his speaker in the studio, but he said it’s direct.

It won’t give us the headroom but the MPC Sample does have two SP1200 vintage modes, I’m already using them extensively 
A bit fiddly to use the way I want (resampling gripes again) but a really nice addition.
After writing that above, I was thinking maybe I should try running the MPC through my UAD Ox Stomp and see what it sounds like through different cab sims and with different mic settings, maybe with a bit of room sound. It gives me my ideal tone on guitar and I’m just realizing I’ve never even considered running a sampler through it.
Let us know how you get on! Major drawback for most pedals will be mono-only. You have made me intrigued about running the Sample through my UAD Enigmatic though… get some lovely harmonics maybe

So the vintage emulations are pretty decent? I’ve been contemplating selling my sp202 to fund a sample. I don’t really expect it to be as good, but if I could process external audio and have it be closeish I think it’d probably get more use
Good enough to get a vibe - not going to replace a 202 but nothing is 
I’ve only really played with the SP1200 and SP1200 Ring (which is a lower samplerate) but they get you somewhere for sure.
And even with needing to put the sample into a sequence to resample it (or using recall) you’re still putting in less effort than introducing a new piece of gear.
You don’t have as much control as you do with the 404MKII lo-fi mfx, however.

youre right, its not tied to the sequence, but you can do sequence specific automation on each pad’s filter
