The engineering stuff came from a screenshot shared upthread from an email sent by a sweetwater salesman who had āsales engineerā on his email signature. No psyop and no TE involved, just me being annoying
Sounds like Iām still in the clear and I can continue calling myself a Temu Engineer (that is, engineer from Temu not for Temu) has a better ring to it than plain old Technician!
lol isnāt it obvious you guys are the guys, the other guys are the other guys⦠you know, the guys with no sampler.
well, a Teenage Engineering psyop would have been interesting ⦠I say no to War, and yes to Sampler Wars while I muahaha in the background planning to get them all !!!

btw I know itās april 1, and I donāt wanna get anybody overly excited but⦠I think the mpc sample solidifyās the possibility of there being a Model Samples mk2 in the not too distant future, but you didnāt hear it from me.
āSunn gets busy. Iāve been using chop button first, ID chops then assign to pads if I want to edit/sound design independently vs globally under chop; but I like the workflow he used in the video lazy chopping to pads off top which is how I do it on L3 and XL.
I can now say that the Sample make a great little drum machine. I decided to make a kit of sounds that I like to use for programming drums. Something closer to the old school machines I used in the 80ās and 90ās. I donāt want to search through 10,000 sounds every time I start to create. I want a nice collection already loaded into a kit. So far I am going withā¦
Bank A - Acoustic set
Bank B - 909 set
Bank C - Optional Bass and snare drums
Bank D - Cymbals and spectialty cymbals
Bank E - Percussion sounds
Bank F - Latin percussion
Bank G - Sound effects
Bank H - Vocal shouts
As I learn these 128 sounds I will get faster and faster with the machine. The size is perfect to match up with the Digiās. Once I get it the way that I want I will save it as a template to use as a consistent starting place for creating. I will say that I quickly bailed on creating this ON the MPC Sample. I jumped over to the Live 3 where it was much quicker to browse pack and pick out sounds.
My MPC Sample arrived today and I am stoked. The initial impression is that sound quality is good. Now Iām running through the manual and getting familiar with work flow.
How does creating kits on a full-size MPC work with regards to preparing it for use on the MPC Sample? I read through most of the manual and watched a bunch of the official YouTube walkthrough videos last night and I didnāt see anything concrete about interoperability or loading anything but an MPC Sample project on the MPCS itself.
Love to hear everybody say that the sound quality is good, but thinking as one of those E-words discussed earlier, is this really surprising to anyone? Decent DACs are more or less a non-issue in this day and age on these kinds of products, and never for a second would I think Akai/inMusic would cheap out on the A/D-D/A stage of an MPC sampler. Have there been any devices costing more than a hundred bucks in the past 6 or 7 years that had lackluster sound due to the converters? I canāt think of hearing of any.
Unless everyoneās talking about the sound from the speaker? I still think the Live 2 speaker rules, and the consensus seems to be that the Live 3 sounds even better, but I wouldnāt expect the Sample to blow me away with that little speaker. Excited to hear it for myself, but I think my expectations are not high, so I canāt imagine being disappointed if Iām underwhelmed.
All of that is fair on the convertor sound and I agree that shouldnāt be a surprise. FWIW, my initial impressions of the effects and emulations are also pretty good.
I think theyāre basically the same. In general, with analog outputs, the signal goes through an audio interfaceās A/D conversion, so itās not really a fair comparison. By the way, the Sample even has balanced outputs, which is impressive for such a small unit. In my tests, the analog path also seemed to make the highs just slightly smoother.
Just wanted to say thanks for being such a versed, knowledgeable helpful MPC cat! Ive read your posts for a while now across a few forums and you always come correct educating the youths in an honest and thoughtful way!
yeah, Iād be surprised if there were actually a meaningful difference between the digital signal and what comes out of the D/A, but all of the fun things that can happen when an analog signal passes through a component in the audio chain could definitely affect the sound. thereās really no telling whether that dude is hearing something more to their own taste from the analog outs due to the MPC itself or due to anything else that could be going on down the signal chain (or whether itās an imagined difference altogether). whether the analog outs sound better or not depends on the exact set of circumstances the MPC finds itself in.
Anyone curious whether the analog outs sound better than the digital out should just give it a shot and see for themselves, I think⦠this is one of those complicated cases where the answer is both yes and no. just go ahead and saturate some channels downstream and see how things sound on your own setup.
anyway if anyone has any resources / youtube videos / manual pages / writeups on how I could use my MPC software or MPC Live 2 to prepare some kits for when my MPC Sample arrives, please let me know, as Iām still not finding any info/documentation on how exactly drum programs or projects from other MPCs work on the Sample.
Also pretty stoked to have gotten my shipping notification and tracking showing my MPC Sample already on its way⦠I was on the phone with guitar center earlier today for an entirely unrelated reason and figured Iād ask about my order that hadnāt made its way to the postal carrier yet. dude said they were backordered something like 3000 units and didnāt think I could have gotten a unit shipped after ordering less than 24 hours ago, but I guess I just got lucky. GC was showing backordered til the end of the month earlier this afternoon.
According to Tutor, the recommended approach is to convert them using MPC 3.8 (not yet released). This process flattens the pads, which seems to improve compatibility.
Everyone knows none of the new gear āhas that soundā and if you arenāt using a 60 or 1000 or 2000 you are a chump who doesnāt have āthat soundā and thatās it. End of discussion.
