That Tonverk Sound

I saw a YT short showing the output volume of a kick on the TV vs DTII and the TV was alot less loud. perhaps an error on gain staging or is something others have noticed??

Not my experience. I run the master out of my TV much lower than my other Elektrons however (20% volume), as I find that it clips internally very early. So I assume it gets very, very loud. But that is very likely user error on my end. I should turn the tracks down and turn the master volume up.
At any rate, I remember the learning curve to gain staging on the Octatrack, and I expect similar patience will come in handy with the Tonverk.

Tonverk only - all factory sounds except one – getting used to the machine and its busses. Sequenced FX parameters on the busses and send channels to create spatial depth and sound variations.

Wow I love these sounds. Would you mind sharing a little bit about the routing and effects setup?

Slapped out my first quick jam with some presets, love this machine

Tonverk only - Resampled Digitakt 2 and mixed in factory samples from the Tonverk. A more experimental session, exploring routing and FX sequencing opportunities.

Had a lot of fun with feedback, using nothing but the Tonverk’s own noise floor from the device’s audio circuits (which never stop even after double-tapping STOP, and repeatedly doing so yields its own fun textures), and Track/Bus/Sends/Mix FX + LFOs. Highly recommend using the compressor for doing this lol

Edit: it is not mine…I hope i will get one on 2/3 months…

All I can say is , that I haven’t really liked any of the Elektrons I’ve had soundwise , especially RYTM mk 1
However this sounds fine to me , it’s very neutral . It doesn’t have a character other than what’s imparted by the typical Elektron Filters and drive algos.
It doesn’t feel cramped either as long as you leave yourself headroom. Something I can’t say about my mc707, which is the best Swiss Army knife , but has a lifeless romper quality, unfortunate as the rest is superb.

Soundwise I ave zero complaints personally.

Had a few hours with it today. It’s the first Elektron since OT that I’ve actually had to consult the manual… lots of new stuff to learn. Getting some weird behavior with the lfos not triggering and modulating like I expected it to. Overall, love it, and know it’s going to turn into a real beast as the updates come out

Thanks for writing this out! I feel like I’m only scratching the surface with this thing. I’ve tried to learn the whole Elektron way where a simple loop evolves abit through modulation and trig conditions. Probably way more I can do in that department but the sequencer is living up to expectations. I also followed some of these steps you wrote out to get chopped samples in this… thing. which I had a lot of fun doing. This is the first vaguelly musical thing that I’ve come up with. Starting from zero a few days ago, it’s starting to feel a bit more like home.

A sample of four tracks from a DNII pattern, manually played from the TV keyboard using transpose, for what I find a rather pleasing drone atmosphere:

Struggling to learn this thing after a few hours, but managed this simple little tribute to seasonal depression

very simple thing I recorded over USB to voice memos on my phone after about an hour of playing around and figuring it out. degrader on the drums, reverb on everything, warble on the master. I like this box much better than the Digitakt already.

Morning grind with Tonverk, some drums from Digitakt 2

As a Nonverker dropping into this thread every now and then to have a gassy listen, it strikes me how ā€˜finished’ almost everything coming from the Tonverk sounds.

Obviously a testament to all your skills as musicians as well, but it really seems like Elektron has sprinkled some magic in there.

Sat down a bit last night and tried to make something. Tonverk is a lot of fun. This is very repetitive and I kept it going longer that no should because I got a bit lost in the menus hehe

pattern with a bunch modulated comb filters in the buses
