I can hear you , all my arturia patches for prophet , obxa ect have at least the distortion onthe plugin , you’re right , it help s … not a fan of teh compression or their reverb …
I remeber enetring a shop with 1500 euros and saying "i need a small forme factor , desktop or 37 keys solid poly)
Tried hydra , minifreak , prohet rev 2 , modal , peak , roland jupiter xm , ect … went out with a minilogue XD module lol , what i did is not to create teh same thing or browsing preset , i made a sound from scratch and seen where i ended up … and boy the xd delivered on each round !! (sold it cause of the iridium core , but more because of room on the desk , if they release a version rackable it is back straight , )
I have the feeling that today the best offering could be the multi poly , sounds superb , is super capable and the form factor is convenient for most scenraios …
Apologies for posting again so soon but I managed to get a take performing what I have so far up to the first section with chords. Pretty proud but loooong way to go
Some ideas brewing up from the SSL thing I submitted earlier… Added a couple drum sounds and ran it through my AH with some parallel smashing, quick impro take
(oops, 10MB file size limit prevents upload… how to link? The take is 12,7 MB…)
Then, I saw that video about Syntakt doing a teebee the other day, twas by that Pikant fellow IIRC? Anyhoo, after some muckin about, this ensued. The filter movement gives it away, but I could very well find myself fooled to think a static ST baseline with no cutoff modulation could come from an actual teebee The best bit of course, is the polymetry and the microtuning capabilities of the ST sequencer - loads of fun to discover ahead of me!
Headphone monitoring messed it up a bit I think… needs tightening up the static mix further…
Had a syntakt session last night to run its dual VCO up against digital swarm mimics (deciding if Tonverk renders syntakt irrelevant for me due to FX track redundancy). Spent quite awhile on it and was unable to replicate the gutsy punch of the dual VCO with digital tracks on syntakt or digitone ii, which I guess makes it a keeper
Also spent more time with the chord engine, which I’m enjoying an awful lot more than I expected. The result was this krautrock-meets-Earth ambient jam. I think it came out awesome. This is all syntakt and tracked into a bento, then very lightly slow LFO modulated pitch and filter and compression on the bento to create a tape saturator effect (it’s very subtle, I can barely hear the effect myself when I compare the two but it glued things just the way I wanted. Logic only used to normalize the end wav file. People talk about the syntakt not being a good “sound design” synth but I’m not finding that to be the case.
In Live, Monomono’s (M4L device) EQ73, Tape, with Live’s Glue Compressor and Limiter.
So many volume changes between patterns that I haven’t cleaned up so this was a cheat to make it something more even, otherwise it would sound super muffled on export because of a wild peak here and there.
I’ll probably go back, but I’m realizing that Syntakt is a strange one to mix. Even though you can record each track out via overbridge, you still have a mash up with delay/reverb and the fx block. I’m thinking the best way is to prepare for a mix, is to record each track out with its own delay/reverb and fx?
