That Syntakt Sound

A techno journey into outer space.
Inspired by our very own space techno maestro @xmit 's excellent music. Recorded straight from the Syntakt.

Jezus Nils, you really know how to work that thing, don’t you? That Syntakt can apparently do so much more than I anticipated!

Nils is a true Elektron wizard: his stuff on the Monomachine back in the day was pure inspiration for me

Nils: “Syntakt, you are fantastic. You’re the love of my musical life!”
Syntakt: “Shut up and get back to your bunker!!”

Well I guess it’s back to the bunker…

Single take, straight from the Syntakt, no post-processing.
Everything smashed through the FX track with a solid dose of drive.

Funny how in the first minutes of a new project I always fear its limitation, and end up with something that I love everytime. After one year of daily use I’m still very in love with this thing. Its just perfect for what I do
Raw sound out the machine, no processing

I’m using Rytm and Syntakt side by side, and to my ears the Rytm sounds much darker (I wont go more in depth regarding this topic on this board anymore, so will just leave it at that). However, both are capable of similar low end thump, if that’s what you’re referring to

this is the first track from an EP I’m working on using only Elektron Syntakt and Octatrack.

The Syntakt runs through Analog Heat in Enhancement mode, then into the Octatrack for further shaping. To keep things raw and spontaneous, I decided to record everything directly to a single stereo track, no multitracking, only mastering done in Ableton. I wanted to avoid getting lost in endless tweaks and just focus on the sound as it happens.

An eclectic collection, all recorded straight from the Syntakt.

More space techno.

A blippy and hyper old school tune.

Exploring a vocoder-like effect (p-locking the FX track filter).

A thought…
Back in the early days of the Machinedrum, we had Science Labs on the old forum. The point was to explore one machine at a time, learning new ways to use them. Anyone with an MD could contribute. I’ve been thinking about starting up something like that for the Syntakt. This would not be a contest or anything like that, just a way to explore and share together. Participants would be required to post a recording, a sysex/project file, and a short description of the techniques used.

Would anyone here be interested in participating in something like that? Maybe it’s a bad time now, just before many are going on vacation. So maybe later in the autumn would be better. Thoughts and ideas are very welcome.
