This started off as an exercise in abusing the ST drum machines for other purposes then became more of an exercise in drone-y excess, seasoned with the FX Block as always.
Tremendous! I wanted it to keep going!
So, how does one exactly get the FX block to feed back on itself? Thatās certainly something I still have yet to tryā¦
I had fun recording a little ST jam tonight and figured Iād share it:
Havenāt tried it yet, but Iām guessing you need to route a cable from either the headphone out or one of the L-R outputs into one of inputs. Then go to the FX routing page and activate the inputs.
I would start gently. There are many level stages that will affect the feedback level and resulting output level, and there is theoretical a risk of blowing the inputs and/or outputs.
Let us know how it goes ![]()
Edit: I just tried this, but I canāt for the life of me get it to work. I drove all levels to max but no hint of feedback. I must be doing something wrong.
The setup: I ran one cable from L out L in, and from R out to R in. Routed physical inputs to FX track in the FX routing menu. Main audio from headphone out to DAW. A simple SY Bots oscillator on track 1.
I was expecting this to create a feedback loop since all audio from the main outs should be fed back to the inputs, and the inputs are in turn routed to FX track, which is fed to master out, etcā¦
Thoughts?
EDIT 2: Got it to work now, I had forgotten to turn up the input volume on mixer page no 3. all I can say is, this gives the ST a new level of distortion ![]()
Why is your ST Grey? Is it one of those anniversary models?
NVM, saw the silver faceplate in some of the pics
Alrighty then ![]()
Great video, that explains it all.
Everything I make on the Syntakt sounds like the same old boring shit and these tracks sound completely amazing holy crap lol Guess the problem is the musician and not the gear ![]()
Thatās a really nice compliment, thanks.
Was conscious that I normally let them run too long so deliberately eschewed that, even though Iād been happily running some of the tracks in the background for long periods.
Same and I think that is why the ST is underrated.
It seems simple at first but there is a non-traditional depth to it.
Thanks for the kind words. Thereās no magic to what I do, I just keep exploring and tweaking, trying to pick up as many tricks and techniques as I can along the way. I have a studio full of toys but itās all collecting dust because I only use the Syntakt. I just find it immensely fun to push it as far as I can.
Another Bergfotron song out. Like the previous, itās done entirely on the Syntakt and OG Digitone plus vocals.
The lyrics (in Swedish) are about how people look much better on social media than in reality.
A Swede making a swedish song about swedes on the sosh, using swedish musical instruments, distributed through a swedish music streaming platform - Do you happen to get cultural backing from your goverment by any chance? ![]()
j/k
Best play loud on proper speakers, this is all about the sound pressure. Straight from the Syntakt at 175bpm.
I think I heard this song in an ikea
Random file i found in my audioshare recordings. Two patterns, one exclusively RS Hard shenanigans, the other a redo of Cortiniās Everything Ends Here. Zero idea where itās from, but it sounded fun hh.
Iāve prolly lost the patterns, ST only for sure tho.
lost the patterns because the machine immediately burst into flames and flew on upward towards the heavens like a screaming eagle fired from a rocket launcher.
( this is a compliment, just so that thereās no confusion
)
A quick progress update on the topic of Syntakt hihats. I managed to create a good hihat pattern with a signle digital track, and in the context of the whole mix, it sounds almost like a sample? I dont even know how it happened, one of those happy accidets I suppose⦠OTOH its possible that the sound only worked so well because of the specific pattn data programming usedā¦
Iāll see if I can upload the sound syx later
Cool, please post it here.
Iām still working on the 909 hihats⦠Itās really hard and I havenāt gotten very close, but Iām not giving up yet ![]()
