Teenage Engineering TX-6 Mixer

I wonder if there are this many Elektron gear posts on the teenage engineering forums.

How do you connect both the opz and the tx6 to an iOS device at the same time?

I think there aren’t even that many teenage engineering posts on the teenage engineering forum

My OPZ is the brain of the setup. The TX6 records audio in AUM. I can if I want use the OPZ through Bluetooth to control iPad apps (not what I did here 100% hardware + fabfilter apps in AUM). Feel free to ask any questions if need be

I want to use tx6 as audio interface for iOS device and sync iOS apps to hardware devices. I don’t think that’s possible: because tx6 has no hardware midi at the moment, and there’s no way to plug a hardware midi device into lightning at the same time as plugging in a tx6. But I hope I’m wrong! (Sounds like you’re not trying to sync to iOS? And I don’t think you’d be able to sync using OPZ because the OPZ doesn’t do midi clock over bluetooth).

I read that in TX-6 manual:

Ā« TX–6 can send and receive midi control change (cc) messages over usb and ble interfaces, as well as midi clock and transport control Ā»

But you already try midi clock through Bluetooth from TX-6 to iPad ?
Maybe beatmach could make the trick. I am sure your usecase is possible. I will eventually give it a try

One thing to note is that TX-6 and OP-Z can handle two USB connections… so it would be possible to use it as an aggregate device between iOS and hardware and at the same time record audio into iOS in theory!. i haveĀ“nt tried it myself.

Is you iPad is the USB C version?

I have a 9th gen lightning version and I am looking for a hub that will power both the iPad and TX-6 as well as pass data. I seem to be running into an issue where I can get both to charge via a hub but then the iPad isn’t recognizing the TX-6 as an interface.

Yes, M1 iPad Pro 12.9 with usb c

it would be awesome to use USB storage (for playback) and at the same time connected to IOS to re-capture the recordings directly within a Video.

as soon as you connect the IOS device it’ll disconnect…the USB C hub is powered but it won’t work tho :triangular_ruler::straight_ruler:

is there a headphone jack or other audio out on that hub?

nope, it should work over USB C but I think TE should allow the TX6 to ā€œstreamā€ from a USB stick, therefore you should be able to record the Audio files within the camera application or with things like AUM or Drambo to remix / re-record the wav files tho :relaxed:

thats crazytalk

you good?

if you don’t have an answer to fulfill my needs I don’t understand your actual take on this tho

need somebody with a tx6 and IOS

The problem is, there is only one USB port. It’s not possible to connect TX-6 to iPad as a USB device, and access a USB stick on TX-6 at the same time.

i’m asking for my own needs. i’m 110% ios, and (regretfully) the tx-6 is an option, but from what you said, i need to scratch it off my list…

but it can be made with a hub or is USB C still limited in file transfer?

basically I want to play a pre recorded mix (from the disk menu) and while this is playing, starting to record a video on IOS, thinking it could handle the playback and record it directly within IOS…

USB hubs don’t work like that. A USB hub connects many devices to one ā€˜host’. Your example has two incompatible outcomes:

  • iPad as host: TX-6 is connected as a device, and iPad can use it as an audio interface. The USB stick is connected as a device, and iPad can access its contents.
  • TX-6 as host: here, the iPad is connected as a device to TX-6, hence audio interface operation is not possible. The USB stick is also connected to TX-6 as device, so it can be accessed by TX-6.

And now for something constructive: If you have an iPad, a TX-6, and a USB hub: why not play the audio file from the stick on the iPad instead? It will sound exactly the same and you’ll even get a nice interface to control playback.

this means the syntakt converts the midi signal coming in from midi din to usb and sends it via usb?
i did not know that
