Guess thats why they want you to buy the TE Mic
Shame really as I wanted an all in one for Field Recording. Guess Sony PCM100 it is

I watched a video where they said that it is more or less as good as the OP-1 field mic
I think the op1f mic is really good…anymore impressions of this now that some more are available to buy?
Not yet. While there is also still on the list: a second digitakt, and a UB-XA, and given the amount of minus-money accumulated, the acquisition of OP-1F, OB-11, OB-4, TX-6, TP-7 has been postponed until further notice
I really like the TP-7, but my use case might not be yours — I’d say the mic on it is good if what you’re looking for is voice recording of interviews or more lo-fi recording of general audio/field mic — I usually use it either USB connected to the TX-6 and either record into it with multitrack/FX from the TX-6, or playback tracks already recorded on it (or other audio I’ve added as files) with fx/eq from the TX-6.
I wouldn’t use it over my phone if my only goal was to use its mic to record, but as an available option (like the built in speaker), I ain’t mad it being there.
It took awhile, but my review for the TP-7 is up now -
Since your op1 Field review triggered my purchase, I’m both happy and afraid of reading this one!
Boy, oh, boy.
What a read. Poetic.
Got some research to do, but your article makes it hard not to hit purchase.
Love your articles.
Really.
Nice review!! I really enjoyed it.
I think you sum up how well you can use the TP-7 with practice. I am not at that point, but your skill is something to aspire to.
Also loved seeing the reMarkable. I have one I use a lot for school, and to mark up my own writing — draft, print to the reMarkable, mark up, edit, repeat until something is polished. Great single-purpose tool, just like the TP-7.
Thanks, your kind words are much appreciated
Really nice review, Andreas! Also now I’m very curious about the unboxing. Not $1500 curious, but…
Thank you I think I overdid that part. It’s a cool box, a bit like a puzzle if I recall, but as you say, not a good reason to buy the TP-7
Wonderful article and accompanying music. I enjoyed the textures, piano, melodies, and ambience you captured. Looking forward to hearing more of your sonic adventures.
Thank you so much
Reading this makes me want to buy it today but then I remember that I can’t plug my electret mics into it bc it doesn’t provide even the weakest plug-in power (not phantom power) and I want to break something! …unbelievably stupid for not having such a basic but useful feature! For a recorder a must have feature! I still don’t understand what were they thinking
How should I elegantly record a quality stereo omni recording of ambiences with this device? Even for a mono recording I need to buy their relatively big and expensive cardio mic.
Maybe you just dodged a bullet there, then
Me and many other people who would like to record a quality stereo omni recording of ambiences! It’s easy to say “if you don’t like it don’t buy it!” But Im not happy that i was left behind, how could I? Why would I be happy or at least indifferent?
It’s a shame really bc it’s a stupid oversight and with the feature that even the worst handheld recorders have this device would really be much more impactful; it would be even possible to record ambisonics and pro recordists would use and that would make many amateurs to use it too
In general, I’d say the Field system remains somewhat incoherent, to your point. It does a lot of things in a convenient and streamlined way, but it still contains many bumps on the road that one needs to be very aware of, if you venture into this eco system.
So I get where you’re coming from, for sure.
